Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is hiring 255 Category-II Stipendiary Trainee/Technician (ST/TN) at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu. NPCIL, a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy, has released Advertisement No. NPCIL/KKNPP/HRM/01/2026 for 255 Group-C posts (208 current + 47 backlog, including 11 PwBD posts) across 8 trades. The selected candidates undergo 2 years of training with a stipend, after which trainees scoring 60% or more are absorbed as Technician/B. Indian nationals aged 18-24 years are eligible. Who Can Apply?

For Plant Operator (136 posts)

  • HSC (10+2) or ISC with Science Stream (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
  • English must have been studied as one of the subjects at least at SSC (10th) level.

For Electronics Mechanic / Instrument Mechanic / Electrician / Fitter / Turner / Machinist / Welder

  • SSC (10th) with minimum 50% marks in Science and Mathematics, AND
  • 2 years ITI certificate in the relevant trade.
  • For trades where ITI duration is less than 2 years: 1 year relevant working experience required after course completion (1 year apprenticeship after 1 year ITI is counted as experience).
  • English must have been studied at least at SSC (10th) level.

Relaxation for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) of Kudankulam: 40% marks for Plant Operator; SSC + 2 years ITI for other trades. PAPs also get 20% bonus marks in all stages.

10th Std percentage rule does not apply to candidates who passed SSC in 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Physical Standards

  • Minimum Height: 160 cm
  • Minimum Weight: 45.5 kg
  • Essential physical standard is relaxable if the candidate is otherwise medically fit.

  • Training Bond: Selected candidates must execute an indemnity bond / bank guarantee of Rs. 5,07,000 for 5 years before joining training.
  • TA for SC/ST candidates: Outstation SC/ST candidates called for the online exam / document verification will be reimbursed 2nd class rail / ordinary bus fare beyond 30 km.

Selection Process

Selection will be done in 3 stages (all on the same day for Stages 1 and 2):

  1. Stage 1 — Online Preliminary Test: 50 MCQs in 60 minutes, total 150 marks (3 marks correct, 1 mark wrong). Subjects: Mathematics (20), Science (20), General Awareness (10). Qualifying marks: UR-40%, SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD-30%.
  2. Stage 2 — Online Advanced Test: 50 MCQs in 120 minutes, total 150 marks (3 marks correct, 1 mark wrong). Syllabus: HSC (Plant Operator) / ITI trade syllabus (other trades). Qualifying marks: UR-30%, SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD-20%. Merit list is prepared from Advanced Test scores only.
  3. Stage 3 — Document Verification: Top 3 times the vacancies per trade are called. Final empanelment is based on Stage 2 merit + tie-breaking principle.

Exam Languages: Trilingual question paper (Tamil, Hindi, English).

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor nuclear plant equipment under the supervision of senior technicians at Kudankulam site
  • Carry out routine maintenance of mechanical, electrical, electronics, or instrumentation equipment as per assigned trade
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols of the Department of Atomic Energy
  • Maintain logbooks, daily duty reports, and equipment maintenance records
  • Assist in commissioning, troubleshooting, and shutdown activities of plant systems
  • Attend classroom theory and on-the-job training sessions during the 24-month training period
  • Work in shifts including night duty as per the duty roster of NPCIL KKNPP
  • Follow radiation safety, industrial safety, and emergency response procedures at all times

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Plant Operator: HSC (10+2) Science (PCM) with 50% marks. Other trades: SSC (10th) with 50% in Science & Maths + 2 years ITI in relevant trade (or shorter ITI + 1 year experience). English at SSC level for all.

Preferred Qualification

Additional ITI certification or apprenticeship in the relevant trade
