NMPA Assistant Manager (VTS) Recruitment 2026: Overview

New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), the major port at Panambur on the Karnataka coast, is hiring an Assistant Manager (VTS) for its Marine Department. This is a contract engagement, not a regular port job: you join for a fixed term that can be extended only if both you and the port agree. The post is meant for electrical and electronics or electronics and communication engineers who have hands-on experience in electrical or electronic works.

The port's wish list shows what the work involves: it prefers people who have installed, run and maintained marine communication equipment such as VHF, radar, AIS, DSC and MF/HF radios. Port-sector experience and comfort with MS Office also count in your favour. Shortlisted candidates hear about the interview by e-mail only, and you will report to the Deputy Conservator.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The contract runs for three years from the day you join and can be stretched by two more years on mutual consent.
• No permanent absorption: The engagement gives you no right to claim a permanent post in the port service.
• Security bond: Before joining, you sign a security bond on non-judicial stamp paper. A fixed sum is held back from your pay every month up to a cap, and it is returned without interest after the contract ends.
• Leave: You get 15 days of casual leave in a calendar year. Unused leave cannot be encashed or carried forward, and any absence beyond that means a proportionate pay cut.
• Medical cover: Free treatment at Srinivas Port Hospital, Panambur for you, your dependent spouse and children, within the hospital's in-house facilities.
• Housing: Port quarters are offered only if available. Rent is deducted from your pay, and you pay the water and electricity charges yourself.
• Travel: There is no travel allowance for joining and no office vehicle for your daily commute to Panambur. Official tours are paid at the rates for regular officers of the same rank.
• Working hours: Normal office hours with Saturday and Sunday off, but you may have to work late or on holidays in an emergency without extra pay.
• Leaving the job: The terms ask for one month's written notice if you quit, while the bond format mentions three months. Clarify this with the port before you sign. NMPA can end the contract with one month's notice, or without notice for misconduct.
• No side work: You cannot run a business or take up any other job while you work at NMPA.
• Disputes: The NMPA Chairperson's decision is final, and any court case can be filed only in Mangalore.
• Canvassing: Any form of canvassing leads to disqualification.
