Who Can Apply?
Essential Educational Qualification (All Posts)
- Master's Degree in any discipline from a recognized university, OR
- MBBS from a recognized university, OR
- Degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized university or Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institute of Engineers (India), OR
- Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) of two years duration
Desirable qualifications vary by area -- for example, Data Analytics roles prefer Ph.D. in quantitative fields, Law & Policy roles prefer Ph.D./Master's in Law, and IT & Telecom roles prefer M.E./M.Tech in Computer Science/IT.
For Deputation Candidates
- Must be officers under Central/State Government or UT Administrations, Universities, Research Institutions, PSUs, or Autonomous Organizations
- Must hold analogous posts on regular basis or have specified years of regular service at the required Pay Matrix Level
- Application must be forwarded through proper channel with APAR Dossier, Vigilance Clearance, and Integrity Certificate
Age Limit
For contractual appointment (as on closing date):
- Senior Lead: Not less than 40 years, not exceeding 52 years (Min experience: 18 years)
- Lead: Not less than 35 years, not exceeding 50 years (Min experience: 15 years)
- Senior Specialist: Not less than 33 years, not exceeding 50 years (Min experience: 10 years)
- Specialist: Not less than 30 years, not exceeding 50 years (Min experience: 8 years)
- Senior Associate: Not less than 26 years, not exceeding 40 years (Min experience: 5 years)
- Associate: Not less than 26 years, not exceeding 35 years (Min experience: 3 years)
Note: Up to 3 years of Ph.D. can be counted towards experience, though no work experience is credited during those years.
Salary
These are high-paying policy positions. The consolidated monthly pay for contractual appointees is as follows:
- Senior Lead (equivalent to Senior Adviser): Rs 3,30,000 per month
- Lead (equivalent to Adviser): Rs 2,65,000 per month
- Senior Specialist: Rs 2,20,000 per month
- Specialist: Rs 1,45,000 per month
- Senior Associate: Rs 1,25,000 per month
- Associate: Rs 1,05,000 per month
For deputation candidates, pay follows the 7th CPC Pay Matrix (Level 10 to Level 15) along with applicable government allowances like DA, HRA, and TA.
Note: Contractual appointees are not entitled to residential accommodation, official transport, leave encashment, or government allowances. However, they get 18 days of leave per calendar year on a pro-rata basis.

- Conduct policy research, analysis, and formulation on critical national issues within your assigned division at NITI Aayog
- Prepare high-quality policy briefs, Cabinet Notes, analytical reports, and strategy documents for senior government decision-makers
- Coordinate with Central Ministries, State Governments, and international organizations on policy development and programme implementation
- Monitor key performance indicators, review ongoing schemes, and provide evidence-based recommendations to improve programme outcomes
- Represent NITI Aayog at inter-ministerial meetings, national forums, and international conferences in your area of expertise
- Manage data collection, integration, and visualization to support policy-making and strategic planning across government departments
- Lead workshops, seminars, and stakeholder consultations to build awareness and drive reforms in your policy domain
- Handle appraisal of programme proposals, project investment plans, and expenditure finance committee notes received from various ministries
