NIT Warangal is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a research project in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal) JRF Recruitment 2026

The National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal) has invited applications for one Junior Research Fellow post under a research project sponsored by ISRO-RESPOND. The project is titled Residual stress measurement and mitigation in high thickness AA2219 alloy friction stir welds for next generation launch vehicles. This is a strong opportunity for young engineers who want to work on space-grade aluminium alloy welding research and also get a path to register for a PhD at NIT Warangal.

Who Can Apply?

• Essential Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering, along with an M.E./M.Tech in Manufacturing, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Materials Science or any other relevant branch.
• Desired Skills: Prior experience with welding, aluminium alloy metallurgy and residual stress measurement will be an added advantage.

Age Limit

• You should be up to 30 years old to apply.
• Age Relaxation: Available as per government norms for reserved categories.

Salary

• If you have qualified GATE, you will get Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA.
• Without GATE, the stipend is Rs. 31,000 per month plus HRA as per norms.
• The stipend increases in later years as per rules. You may also get on-campus hostel and mess facilities, subject to availability.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

The selection is based on your qualifications and an interview. There is no written exam.

1. Shortlisting: Candidates are screened based on eligibility and academic record.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates attend an interview, which may be held online or offline. The list of eligible candidates will be published on the institute website and shared by email or phone.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

• Carry out the objectives of the ISRO-sponsored research project on friction stir welding.
• Perform microstructural and mechanical property characterization of AA2219 aluminium alloy welds.
• Measure residual stress in high-thickness welds and study methods to reduce it.
• Prepare weld samples and run experiments in the laboratory.
• Record and analyse test data and keep proper research documentation.
• Assist in writing research reports and papers for the project.
• Present progress updates to the project supervisor.
