NHPC Limited Director (Projects) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NHPC Limited, a Schedule 'A' Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has invited applications for the post of Director (Projects) through the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). The Director (Projects) will be a member of the Board of Directors and will report directly to the Chairman and Managing Director. This is a top-level leadership role in India's hydropower sector. Incorporated on 7 November 1975, NHPC operates 31 power stations with a total installed capacity of 8582.90 MW (including joint ventures) and is also diversifying into solar and wind energy. The Government of India holds a 67.40 percent stake in the company.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• You must hold a graduate degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution.
• An MBA or PGDM qualification from a recognised institute is considered an added advantage.

Experience

• You should have at least 5 years of senior-level experience in the last 10 years.
• Experience should be in project planning, design, construction, execution, or management of hydro projects.
• Track record of leading large-scale infrastructure or energy projects will be given weightage.

Service Eligibility

• You must currently hold a board-level position or a post immediately below board level.
• Open to professionals from:
  • Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs)
  • Central Government Group 'A' services
  • Armed Forces of the Union
  • Public Sector Banks
  • State PSUs
  • Large private sector organisations or joint ventures meeting the prescribed turnover criteria

Age Limit

• The appointment is for 5 years from the date of joining or until 60 years of age, whichever is earlier.
• You must have at least 2 years of residual service as on the date of vacancy (1 March 2027), as per PESB guidelines for internal candidates.
• External candidates should have residual service as per the PESB schedule for board-level posts.

Salary

• Pay scale: Rs. 1,80,000 - Rs. 3,40,000 per month (IDA) under Schedule A.
• You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per NHPC and Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) rules.
• Board-level perks and benefits applicable to functional directors of Schedule A CPSEs (housing, car, club membership, medical, leave travel concession, etc.).
• Eligible for performance-related pay (PRP) as per DPE guidelines.

Selection Process

Selection is done by the Public Enterprises Selection Board through the following stages:

1. Screening of Applications: PESB will screen all received applications against the eligibility criteria laid out in the job description.
2. Shortlisting: Eligible candidates are shortlisted for the personal interview based on qualifications, experience, and current role.
3. Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview by the PESB selection committee at the Lok Udyam Bhawan, New Delhi.
4. Recommendation: PESB recommends the selected candidate to the Government, which issues the final appointment order through the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

• Ensure timely commissioning and completion of hydroelectric and renewable projects

• Drive techno-economic planning for major hydroelectric, solar, and wind power projects
• Coordinate with central and state agencies for project clearances and approvals
• Represent NHPC at board meetings and policy discussions on project execution
