What Does This Role Involve?

The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) runs a network of science centres and museums across India, and they need experienced security professionals to manage safety operations at these facilities.
As a Security & Maintenance Officer, you will be the go-to person for everything related to security, fire safety, conservancy, and facility upkeep at your assigned museum or science centre. Think of it as running the entire operations backbone of the centre — from managing security guards to conducting fire drills, overseeing gardening and housekeeping agencies, and handling emergencies when they arise.

Selection Process
NCSM will shortlist candidates from valid applications and send call letters for a written examination. You will need to carry a valid photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Driving License, or Passport) along with your admit card on exam day. Based on the written test performance, candidates may be called for further evaluation before final selection.
How to Apply
This is an offline application process — there is no online portal. You need to download the prescribed application form from the NCSM website at ncsm.gov.in/notice/career, fill it out, attach all required certificates and testimonials, and send it by post along with the demand draft for the application fee. The completed application must reach NCSM's Kolkata office by 31 March 2026. If you are currently working in a government or public sector organization, you must apply through proper channel or attach a No Objection Certificate.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage security operations across all entry and exit points of the museum or science centre
- Plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate fire safety and emergency medical service (EMS) operations
- Inspect buildings and properties for fire hazards and enforce safety compliance
- Respond to alarms and emergency situations, providing initial response and directing operations
- Ensure proper deployment and alertness of security personnel at all security checkpoints
- Monitor movement of visitors and materials throughout the premises
- Supervise housekeeping, gardening, and facility maintenance agencies
- Ensure proper upkeep of gardens, guest houses, dormitories, and other facilities
- Conduct periodic security checks and mock fire drills
- Ensure timely refilling of fire extinguishers and maintenance of fire hydrant and alarm systems
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Any Graduate from a recognized university. Must be retired Defence Force personnel (Army, Navy, Air Force) in Junior Commissioned Officer rank or similar rank, OR retired Para Military/Police (CISF, CRPF, BSF, RPF, SSB, State Police) in equivalent rank.
Preferred Qualification
Knowledge in fire safety measures and handling of firefighting equipment
Required Skills
Security management, fire safety operations, facility maintenance, emergency response, personnel supervision
Age Limit
18 - 45 years
