MGU Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Overview

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Kottayam is filling Assistant Professor on Contract posts in Hindi, Microbiology/Biotechnology and Environmental Science for the 2026-27 academic year. The posts sit in three of the university's teaching units — the Graduate School, the National Institute of Plant Science Technology (NIPST) and the Institute for Integrated Programmes and Research in Basic Sciences (IIRBS). This is the third re-notification of a call first issued in June 2026, so these seats have stayed open through earlier rounds — each post is earmarked for a specific reserved group, but it falls back to other candidates if nobody from that group applies. Qualified teachers, including those who have retired from colleges or universities, can apply by email.

Posts and Disciplines

• Hindi (Graduate School): teaching post at the university's Graduate School, set aside in this rotation for the Latin Catholic / Anglo Indian (LC/AI) community quota.
• Microbiology/Biotechnology (NIPST): teaching post at the National Institute of Plant Science Technology, reserved for a differently-abled (deaf) candidate.
• Environmental Science (IIRBS): teaching post at the Institute for Integrated Programmes and Research in Basic Sciences, set aside for the Viswakarma (V) community quota.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The engagement is purely on contract for the academic year 2026-27 and ends on 15 April 2027.
• Reservation fallback (Hindi and Environmental Science): If no one from the named community applies, candidates from other reserved categories are considered, and after them the Open Competition (OC) category.
• Reservation fallback (Microbiology/Biotechnology): If no deaf candidate applies, the post goes first to other differently-abled categories, then to other reserved categories, and finally to OC candidates.
• Kerala natives only for community quota: Natives of states other than Kerala need not apply for a post notified exclusively under the community reservation quota.
• Degrees from outside Kerala: If your degree or Ph.D. is from a university outside Kerala, you need an equivalency/eligibility certificate from MGU.
• Reservation proof: Differently-abled and EWS certificates must follow the Kerala State Government criteria and be issued by the competent authority.
• Teaching experience: Guest, contract or temporary teaching counts only from the date you met the UGC minimum qualification for Assistant Professor.
• Agreement: Selected candidates must sign an agreement with the university as per its existing norms.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online portal for these posts. Fill in the application proforma attached to the notification and email it with scanned copies of your original certificates to recruitmentada7@mgu.ac.in. You get 10 days from the notification date to send it — late mails, applications not in the prescribed format, or mails missing the scanned proofs will be rejected outright.

The proforma records your teaching aptitude (teaching experience, ICT-enabled teaching, e-content and MOOC work on SWAYAM) and your research aptitude (publications grouped by impact factor, conference papers, patents, post-doctoral fellowships, books and chapters). Attach proof that each journal is UGC-approved or peer reviewed along with its impact factor for every paper you list.
