IGNTU Research Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak is hiring a Research Assistant and a Field Investigator for its Department of Education. Both posts belong to an ICSSR-PVTGs sponsored project titled "The Pastoral Legacy of the Todas: Arts, Culture, Education, Health and Livelihood of the Nilgiris Biosphere: An Ethnography Perspectives". The project studies the Toda community of the Nilgiris, one of India's Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), so expect field-based ethnographic work. These are short, temporary project posts, ideal if you have a social science Master's and want hands-on tribal research experience.

Posts and Disciplines

• Research Assistant: the senior project role, open to social science postgraduates who also hold NET, JRF, M.Phil. or a Ph.D. It suits someone ready to handle research tasks and writing for the project.
• Field Investigator: the entry-level field role, open to postgraduates in any social science discipline without the NET/JRF condition.

For both posts, the project gives preference to people with anthropology or PVTG field work, the ability to speak the local language of the study area, computer skills and good written English. SC/ST candidates get a 5% relaxation in the marks condition as per Government of India norms.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Both posts are purely temporary and run for a short fixed period, which may be extended if the field work needs it. Continuation depends on satisfactory performance and project needs.
• No regular job claim: Working on this project does not give you any right to a regular or part-time job at IGNTU.
• One post only: You can apply for just one of the two posts.
• No travel allowance: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
• Complete forms only: Incomplete applications are not considered, and canvassing disqualifies you.
