About This Exam
Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), Pune has opened registrations for the MAHA TET (Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test) June 2026 session. This is a qualifying examination for candidates who want to become teachers for Class 1 to 8 in Maharashtra state schools. The exam covers Paper 1 (for Class 1-5 teachers) and Paper 2 (for Class 6-8 teachers). Last date to apply is 16 April 2026. There is no age limit to appear for this exam.
MAHA TET June 2026 Registration — Teacher Eligibility Test
The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), Pune conducts the MAHA TET twice a year as a gateway for aspiring school teachers across Maharashtra. Clearing this exam gives you a TET certificate that is valid for life, and it is mandatory for getting appointed as a primary or upper primary teacher in government and aided schools in the state. You can appear for Paper 1 alone, Paper 2 alone, or both papers together. The exam will be held on Sunday, 21 June 2026 across centres in Maharashtra.
Paper Details
- Paper 1 (Class 1 to 5 — Primary Level): For candidates who want to teach in primary schools (Standards 1st to 5th)
- Paper 2 (Class 6 to 8 — Upper Primary Level): For candidates who want to teach in upper primary schools (Standards 6th to 8th)
- Both Papers: You can apply for both papers in a single application at a reduced combined fee
Who Can Apply?
For Paper 1 (Class 1 to 5 — Primary Level):
- Educational Qualification: You must have passed SSC (10th Class) from a recognised board
- Professional Qualification: Diploma in Teacher Education (D.El.Ed / D.T.Ed) or its equivalent
- Alternatively, Higher Secondary (12th) with 50% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed, or 4-year B.El.Ed, or B.Ed degree
For Paper 2 (Class 6 to 8 — Upper Primary Level):
- Educational Qualification: You must have passed SSC (10th) and hold a Graduation degree
- Professional Qualification: Diploma in Teacher Education (D.El.Ed) and equivalent, OR Graduate in Teacher Education (B.Ed) and equivalent
- Alternatively, Higher Secondary with 4-year B.El.Ed or B.A.Ed course is also accepted
Note: Indian citizenship is required. Maharashtra domicile is needed to claim state-quota benefits in teacher recruitment.
Age Limit
- There is no age limit for MAHA TET 2026. Candidates of any age group can appear for this exam.

For Single Paper (Paper 1 OR Paper 2):
- General / OBC / EWS / VJA / NT-B / NT-C / NT-D / SBC / SEBC: Rs. 1,000
- SC / ST: Rs. 700
- Differently Abled (40% or more disability): Rs. 700
For Both Papers (Paper 1 + Paper 2):

Selection Process
MAHA TET is a qualifying examination, not a recruitment exam. Here is what you need to know:
- Written Exam (MCQ-Based): 150 objective-type multiple choice questions carrying 1 mark each. Total 150 marks per paper. Duration is 2 hours 30 minutes per paper. No negative marking — you get zero for wrong answers, no deduction.
- Qualifying Marks: General category candidates need 60% (90 out of 150) to pass. Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/VJA/NT/SBC/PwD) need 55% (82.5 out of 150) to pass.
- TET Certificate: Candidates who meet the qualifying marks receive a MAHA TET certificate, which is valid for lifetime and is mandatory for applying to government teacher posts in Maharashtra.

- Section 1 — Language 1 (Medium): 30 questions, 30 marks (Q.1-30)
- Section 2 — Language 2: 30 questions, 30 marks (Q.31-60)

- Section 4 — Mathematics: 30 questions, 30 marks (Q.91-120)
- Section 5 — Environmental Studies: 30 questions, 30 marks (Q.121-150)
Paper 2 (Class 6 to 8):
- Section 1 — Language 1 (Medium): 30 questions, 30 marks (Q.1-30)

How to Apply
- Go to the official MAHA TET website at mahatet.in.
- Click on "New Registration" and register using your mobile number. Note down your username and password.
- Log in with your username and password.
- Fill the application form with your personal, educational, and professional details.
- Upload your latest photograph, signature, and a valid government ID proof.
- If applicable (name change, ex-serviceman, PwD, or family of martyred soldier), upload supporting certificates.
- Preview your application carefully — you cannot make changes after payment.
- Pay the exam fee online through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, UPI, or QR Code.
- After successful payment, download the transaction receipt and take a printout of your application form.

Responsibilities
- Teach assigned subjects to students in primary or upper primary classes as per the state curriculum
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching aids, and study materials for effective classroom delivery
- Evaluate student performance through tests, assignments, and examinations
- Maintain student attendance records and academic progress reports
- Guide students in their overall development including academic and co-curricular activities
- Participate in school events, parent-teacher meetings, and teacher training programmes
- Follow the teaching guidelines and rules set by the School Education Department of Maharashtra
