IITR SRF Physics Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is engaging a Senior Research Fellow in its Department of Physics for the QUEST project, short for Quantum Enhanced WRF model for Urban Climate System Modelling. Supported by the National Quantum Mission under the Department of Science and Technology, the project brings together weather modelling, climate datasets and accelerated computing. This is a project-based research engagement under Principal Investigator Prof. P. Arumugam rather than a permanent institute post. The role is built around developing and testing WRF models on HPC and GPU systems, so it suits you if you already have hands-on experience with climate-model data and scientific computing. Your outputs will support a wider urban climate modelling effort, so careful testing and clearly recorded simulation results matter alongside the ability to run large computational workloads.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project term: The SRF engagement is planned for three years and remains linked to the QUEST research project.
• Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply for this project position.
• Technical setting: The work uses climate datasets, Weather Research and Forecasting models, high-performance computing and GPU acceleration rather than general-purpose Physics lab work.
• Equal-merit preference: IIT Roorkee gives preference to SC and ST candidates when their qualifications and experience are equal to those of other candidates.
• Travel expenses: No TA or DA is available for attending the interview. You need to arrange and pay for your own travel to Roorkee.
