Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), has released advertisement ICSR/PR/Advt. 123/2026 for 1 Junior Research Fellow post. This is a contract position linked to a research project on batteries and electrochemistry under Prof. Ranjit Baur. The role is initially for six months and can be extended based on your performance. Freshers with the right degree and a valid NET or GATE score can apply.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• Postgraduate degree in Physics or Chemistry, OR
• Graduate / Postgraduate degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Energy Engineering, or Chemical Engineering

You Must Also Have Qualified One Of These

• CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship / Assistant Professorship) and a valid GATE score, OR
• Selection through a national-level exam conducted by central government bodies such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc.

Desirable

• Research experience in batteries, voltammetry and electrochemistry is preferred.

Salary

• You will get Rs. 37,000 per month as fellowship.
• Plus 30% House Rent Allowance (HRA) on top of the fellowship.

Selection Process

1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted from the online applications based on qualification and experience.
2. Test / Skill Test: The Institute may hold a written or skill test to screen candidates.
3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview.
4. Document Verification: Carry the printout of your application and original documents when called.

• Process materials and characterise them using XRD, SEM, TEM and other techniques
• Run electrochemical tests such as Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) and Rotating Disc Electrode (RDE) voltammetry
• Make coin and pouch cells and carry out their electrochemical characterisation
• Analyse experimental data and record results carefully
• Maintain lab notebooks and prepare reports for the project
• Work closely with the project co-ordinator and research team
