About This Job
IIT Indore is hiring 1 Veterinarian on a Visiting Consultant basis for its Animal House Facility. If you have a B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree with 2 years of experience and a valid veterinary council registration, you can apply. The pay is Rs. 400 to Rs. 500 per hour (about 40 hours a week). IIT Indore Veterinarian Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) has released Advertisement No. IITI/Engagement/Veterinarian/2026 to engage 1 Veterinarian (Visiting Consultant). You will look after the health and care of laboratory animals in the Institute's Animal House Facility and help researchers follow CPCSEA and IAEC guidelines. The engagement is initially for 1 year and can be renewed based on your performance and the needs of the Institute.
Who Can Apply?
Essential Qualification
- A Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) as listed in the 1st and 2nd Schedule of the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984, with 2 years of experience.
- A valid registration with a State Veterinary Council or the Veterinary Council of India.
Desirable Qualification
- M.V.Sc. in Veterinary Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, or Pharmacology & Toxicology with valid registration
- Ph.D. in a relevant subject (preferred)
- Good communication skills, and being organised, self-driven and high-energy
Desirable Experience
- Handling and caring for laboratory animals like rats, mice, rabbits and guinea pigs
- Managing a lab animal house facility
- Working with immunocompromised, specific-pathogen-free (SPF) and genetically modified animals
- Running and managing BSL-2 studies
- Minor animal health monitoring procedures, documentation and environmental monitoring
- Knowledge of CPCSEA registration/regulations and IAEC approval procedures, and working with GLP-certified labs

- Maximum age: 50 years as on the last date of application (17 July 2026)
Salary
- You will be paid Rs. 400 to Rs. 500 per hour, depending on your qualifications, experience and suitability.
- The work is for about 40 hours a week, which works out to roughly Rs. 69,000 to Rs. 87,000 per month.
- The honorarium is fixed and there are no other allowances or benefits.

Responsibilities
- Run clinical and preventive health programs for animals in the Animal House Facility
- Care for and monitor the health of laboratory animals like rats, mice, rabbits and guinea pigs
- Train students, researchers and support staff to handle lab animals humanely as per CPCSEA guidelines
- Guide users in animal procedures such as breeding, sample collection, injections and euthanasia
- Coordinate IAEC meetings and review animal ethics protocols
- Help import and export live laboratory animals and run quarterly health monitoring
- Be available for emergency veterinary care after hours, on weekends and holidays
- Keep records and help develop animal care, research and safety policies
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) recognised under the Indian Veterinary Council Act 1984, with 2 years of experience and a valid registration with a State Veterinary Council or the Veterinary Council of India
Preferred Qualification
Master of Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) in Veterinary Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, or Pharmacology & Toxicology; Ph.D. in a relevant subject; experience in laboratory animal care and CPCSEA/IAEC procedures
Required Skills
Laboratory animal handling and care, animal house facility management, CPCSEA and IAEC compliance, BSL-2 study management, animal health monitoring, good communication
