Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) Senior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026
The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is an autonomous institution of the Department of Atomic Energy and a deemed university based in Colaba, Mumbai. It has released Advertisement No. 2026/18 for one Senior Research Fellow position. The role is part of a project funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) titled "Investigating the mechanism of co-translational protein folding and its implications in cellular physiology". You will work under the supervision of Prof. Debasis Das. This is a strong opportunity if you want hands-on research in molecular biology and protein science at one of India's top research institutes.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: M.Sc or Ph.D in Biological Science, Chemical Science, or Engineering.
- Experience: Substantial research experience of at least one year in Biological or Chemical Science or Engineering.
- Preferred: Knowledge of in silico (computer-based) methods will be an added advantage.
Your main work will be active research to understand how newly made (nascent) proteins fold, using both laboratory experiments and computational (in silico) methods. So a candidate who enjoys both wet-lab and modelling work will fit well.
Age Limit
- Your age should preferably be below 45 years.
Salary
- You will get a fellowship of Rs. 42,000 per month plus 30% House Rent Allowance (HRA), which comes to around Rs. 54,600 per month.
- Medical facilities are also provided as per TIFR rules.
- The post is temporary and non-pensionable - it is a project-linked research position, not a permanent job.
Nature and Period of Post
- The appointment is initially for one year and can be extended for a maximum of another 4 years based on your performance.
- You will not have any claim to a permanent or temporary post in the institute during or after the project.
- During the fellowship, you may register for a part-time Ph.D if approved.
