Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) has released Advertisement No. IITG/2026/FA-ADVT/01 dated 31 July 2026 under its Regular Recruitment Drive for Faculty Positions. The institute is looking for Assistant Professors across 15 departments and schools — from core engineering branches like Civil, Mechanical, and Electronics to newer schools like the Mehta Family School of Data Science and AI and the School of Energy Science and Engineering. You can apply to more than one department, but you need to submit a separate application for each one. Who Can Apply?

You need a Ph.D. degree with first class or equivalent in an appropriate branch, along with a qualifying Bachelor's or Master's degree in the discipline you are applying for. Here is what each department is looking for:

• Biosciences and Bioengineering: Bioinformatics, biosensors, computational biology — needs a 4-year Bachelor's or 5-year integrated Master's in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (MBBS/BVSc also accepted)
• Chemical Engineering: Process control, AI/ML in chemical engineering — needs a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
• Civil Engineering: Construction, environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering — needs a 4-year Bachelor's or 5-year integrated Master's in Civil Engineering
• Computer Science and Engineering: All areas of CSE — needs a 4-year Bachelor's, Bachelor's+Master's, or 5-year integrated Master's in Computer Science or a related discipline
• Design: UX/HCI, AI in Design, communication design, and more — needs a 4-year Bachelor's, 2-year Master's, or 5-year integrated Master's in Design, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, or Fine Arts
• Electronics and Electrical Engineering: Communication networks, AI/ML, power systems, photonics — needs a 4-year Bachelor's or 5-year integrated Master's in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation/Communication Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering: Fluid and thermal, manufacturing, machine design — needs a 4-year Bachelor's or 5-year integrated Master's in Mechanical Engineering
• Chemistry: Inorganic and organic chemistry — needs a Bachelor's and Master's or 5-year integrated Master's in Chemistry

• Mehta Family School of Data Science and AI: NLP, GenAI, IoT, ML — needs a 4-year Bachelor's or 5-year integrated Master's in Data Science/AI, Mathematics, Statistics, CSE, or ECE
• School of Energy Science and Engineering: Renewable energy, energy storage, sustainable buildings — needs a Bachelor's or 5-year integrated Master's in Energy/Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Chemical Engineering
• Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology: Computational biology, regenerative medicine, biomedical devices — needs a Bachelor's in Engineering/Biotechnology, or MBBS with a PhD for healthcare research candidates

Age Limit

• You should preferably be below 35 years of age as on the date of advertisement (31 July 2026).
• Age Relaxation: SC/ST candidates get 5 years, OBC-NCL candidates get 3 years, and PwBD candidates get 5 years relaxation in the upper age limit. Candidates who are both SC/ST and PwBD get 10 years relaxation, and OBC-NCL + PwBD candidates get 8 years.
• You must upload valid SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD certificates in the prescribed format along with your application. Original certificates will be verified at the interview.

Salary

• Assistant Professor Grade II (7th CPC Pay Level 10 & 11): for candidates with less than 3 years of post-PhD teaching, research, or industrial experience. Entry pay starts around Rs. 56,100 per month.
• Assistant Professor Grade I (7th CPC Pay Level 12): for candidates with at least 3 years of post-PhD experience. Entry pay starts around Rs. 78,800 per month.
• Pay and allowances (DA, HRA, and other benefits) will be as per Government of India rules.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

IIT Guwahati will select candidates through the following stages:

1. Shortlisting: Based on your qualifications, experience, and the specific requirements of the department/school you applied to. Meeting the minimum eligibility does not guarantee an interview call.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview. Original certificates and documents must be produced at this stage.

The Institute's decision on shortlisting and selection is final, and no correspondence will be entertained regarding non-selection.
