IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has released Advertisement No. 411002/5/2026-NFR dated 2 July 2026 for 3 Assistant Registrar posts on a direct recruitment basis, with one post each reserved for UR, SC, and OBC-NCL categories. The posts are also suitable for Divyang candidates with Low Vision, Hard of Hearing, or Locomotor Disability. This is a good opportunity for postgraduates with strong administrative experience in a government office, university, or technological institution who want to move into a senior administrative role at a premier IIT. Established in 1926 and formerly known as the Indian School of Mines, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is one of India's oldest technical institutes, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in Engineering, Pure and Applied Sciences, Management, and Humanities & Social Sciences across 17 departments.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Master's degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade B in the UGC seven-point scale.
• Experience: At least 5 years of relevant administrative experience in a supervisory capacity in a Government office, university, or technological institution (or an organization of repute) covering examinations, academics, establishment, general administration, R&D, student affairs, or accounts — in the grade pay of Rs. 4,600 (Pay Level-7) or equivalent.
• Desirable: A professional qualification in Management or Finance & Accounts, plus experience handling Administrative, Legal, Finance, Stores & Purchase, or Establishment matters.
• Reservation: The Institute follows Government of India reservation norms for SC and OBC-NCL categories, based on the Central List. You must attach a valid Caste/Category certificate in the prescribed format with your application.

Age Limit

• The age limit is 40 years as on the closing date of application, 15 August 2026.
• Age Relaxation: If you are already an employee of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad with at least 3 years on a regular post, the maximum age limit is 50 years.
• If you have served at least 3 years on a regular post at other IITs/NITs/CFTIs, you get 5 years of age relaxation (not applicable to employees from private organizations).
• Age relaxation for SC and OBC-NCL candidates is admissible as per Government of India norms.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month under Pay Level-10 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
• You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Institute rules.

Selection Process

A preliminary shortlisting of candidates is done based on the qualifications and experience mentioned in the advertisement. Fulfilling the minimum qualifications by itself does not guarantee that you will be called for the next stage. The selection will be done in these stages:

1. Preliminary Shortlisting: Based on the essential qualifications and experience mentioned in the advertisement.
2. Written Test / Computer Test: May be conducted by the Institute if a large number of applications are received, as per the Recruitment Rules of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
3. Presentation and Interview: Final selection is based on your performance in a Presentation and Interview before the Selection Committee, which may be conducted in online mode.

If shortlisted for interview, you get train fare reimbursement (AC-3 tier, shortest route) from your normal place of residence to Dhanbad. If you are already employed in a Government or Semi-Government organization, you must produce a No Objection Certificate from your employer at the time of interview.
