ICMR-NITHR Project Nurse and Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview

The ICMR-National Institute for Tribal Health Research (ICMR-NITHR), Jabalpur, an institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is holding walk-in interviews under Advt. No. 06/2026-27 to staff eight of its running research studies and field units. The roles range from Project Research Scientist and Consultant (Medical) at the top to Project Nurse, Field Officer, Technical Support, Admin and Lab Technician posts for field and lab work.

This is a short stop-gap engagement: the posts run for three months or until the institute finalises its manpower outsourcing contract on GeM (Bid No. GEM/2026/B/7491140), whichever comes first. If you have nursing, lab, field survey or public health research experience and can work in Jabalpur or at the institute's rural research units in Jheet (Durg) and Datia, this notice is worth a close look.

Posts and Disciplines

Reservation is set by post group, not by single post: the two Project Research Scientist-I posts share one pool, the nurse, field officer and admin posts share another, and the technical support and lab posts form two more pools. Local candidates and those with higher qualifications and experience get preference.

Post-wise Duties

Project Research Scientist-II

On ADOPT-HTAIn you will handle NGS and bioinformatics analysis, supervise the team, set up the lab and work on biosafety, serological and molecular diagnostics. The MRHRU Jheet scientist develops and monitors the unit's research projects, analyses data, writes manuscripts and coordinates with the state nodal officer and the link medical college.

Project Research Scientist-I

The i-DRONE scientist assesses field sites in remote tribal terrain, collects and analyses data on drone-based delivery of medical supplies, and liaises with state and district health officials. The malaria sero-surveillance scientist works on cloning, expression and purification of proteins and runs ELISA and Luminex assays.

Consultant (Medical)

You will supervise the sickle cell disease trial in the field, follow up patients, collect and curate clinical data, and help draft progress reports and research articles.

Project Nurse-IV and Project Nurse-III

The Nurse-IV posts supervise field teams and check data quality and protocol adherence. The Nurse-III posts recruit participants, take informed consent, and run baseline and follow-up assessments.

Project Field Officer

You will run field surveys, interviews and community meetings, keep consent forms and daily reports, enter and check data, and organise logistics for awareness programmes.

Technical Support, Admin and Lab Posts

• Technical Support-III: SCD patient follow-up and data collection, dengue virus and cell culture work, or household health surveys at MRHRU Jheet, depending on the project.
• Technical Support-II: field health surveys, blood collection and lab tests such as CBC and biochemistry at MRHRU Jheet.
• Assistant Multipurpose (Admin): office administration, record keeping, salary preparation and procurement.
• Lab Technician-2: blood collection, lab investigations and field data collection for the Datia unit.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Three months or until the GeM outsourcing contract is finalised, whichever is earlier. The posts end with the project and may or may not be renewed.
• No permanent claim: Selection gives you no right to a regular job in ICMR-NITHR, ICMR or any Government of India body.
• Regular government staff: People already in regular time-scale government service are not eligible.
• Experience: Only experience gained after the essential qualification counts.
• Reserved posts: Age relaxation applies only to posts earmarked for reserved categories, never to unreserved posts. Unfilled reserved posts may go to other categories.
• Age date: Your age is counted on the day of your walk-in interview.
• Travel: No TA/DA for the interview or for joining; arrange your own transport and stay.
• Pay and leave: Project pay may change over time, and leave follows the ICMR policy for project staff.
• Updates: Any addendum or corrigendum appears only on www.nirth.res.in, not in newspapers.
