SMC Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is filling nine different cadres by direct recruitment, from a Director (I.T.) and two hospital specialists to legal, school-administration and instrumentation engineering posts. The corporation is using this drive to prepare a waiting list for each cadre, so vacancies that open later can also be filled from it.

Most of these posts are meant for experienced professionals, with several asking for close to a decade of practice or service. The Assistant Engineer and Supervisor (Instrumentation) posts are the exception and suit younger engineers and diploma holders. All posts are with the corporation in Surat, Gujarat, and the detailed advertisement is published in Gujarati, so read it carefully on the SMC website before you apply.

Posts and Disciplines

• Director (I.T.): the senior technology post, open to engineering postgraduates in computer, electronics, communication or IT branches with long experience in government IT work.
• Radiologist: a specialist doctor's post for MD, DNB or PG Diploma holders in radiology or radio-diagnosis.
• Pathologist: the matching specialist post for pathology postgraduates.
• Legal Officer: for law postgraduates with long practice in civil, criminal and labour courts, or with legal work in a government body.
• Administrative Officer (Suman School): the administrative post for SMC's Suman School, open to graduates with a B.Ed. and secondary-school teaching experience.
• Departmental Inquiry Officer: for law graduates who have worked in labour courts, industrial tribunals or conciliation; experience as an arbitrator gets preference.
• Deputy Engineer (Instrumentation): a senior post built around flow, pressure and temperature instruments, sensors and transmitters used in water and chemical treatment.
• Assistant Engineer (Instrumentation): the largest cadre in this drive and the only one with seats split across ST, SEBC and unreserved categories, including seats for women.
• Supervisor (Instrumentation): open to B.E./B.Tech graduates, or to diploma holders with field experience in instrumentation engineering.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Gujarat origin for reserved seats: SC, ST, SEBC and EWS seats are reserved only for candidates who are originally from Gujarat. Reserved-category candidates can still apply for unreserved seats, judged by unreserved standards.
• Women's seats: Where a share of a category's seats is kept for women, the rest are filled on merit from men and women alike; unfilled women's seats go to men of the same category.
• Computer exam after joining: You must pass CCC+ (Director to Deputy Engineer) or CCC (Assistant Engineer and Supervisor) within one year of appointment, unless you already hold it or an equivalent.
• Supervisor training period: The Supervisor (Instrumentation) works on a fixed monthly training stipend for the first three years before moving to the regular pay scale.
• Experience rules: Only experience gained after the required degree counts, and an offer or appointment letter alone is not accepted as proof.
• Registration and licence: Where a cadre needs a registration or licence, it must be valid on the date you apply.
• SMC staff: Regular SMC employees are exempt from the age limit, but trainees on a fixed stipend are not; a trainee selected here gets a completely fresh appointment.
• Selection method: SMC will decide later whether to hold a written test, practical test or oral interview for each cadre, based on the number of applications.
• Travel: You reach tests, interviews and document checks at your own cost.

Application Submission Notes

You apply online only on suratmunicipal.gov.in. First create a user registration with your email and mobile number, verified by OTP; if you registered for an earlier SMC recruitment, you can log in with that same account.

Serving SMC employees and trainees must also send a hard copy of the online form with their latest pay slip through proper channel to the Central Establishment (Recruitment) Department within 7 days after the closing date. The fee is accepted online only, never by demand draft, postal order or cash, and it is not refunded. Keep the same mobile number and email active, because call letters are announced by SMS and posted on the SMC website.
