GSSSB Food Safety Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview

Gujarat Subordinate Services Selection Board (GSSSB) is filling Food Safety Officer, Class-3 posts in the office of the Commissioner, Food and Drugs Control Administration, which works under Gujarat's Health and Family Welfare Department. This is direct recruitment through one competitive exam under Advertisement No. 465/202627, and the posts belong to a regular state cadre, though the first five years are on fixed pay.

The board accepts a wide set of science degrees, so Chemistry postgraduates, food technologists, dairy and agriculture graduates, veterinarians, microbiologists and medical graduates can all compete for the same posts. A separate advertisement covers the posts reserved for candidates with disabilities, and every application goes through the OJAS portal.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Fixed-pay period: you join on a fixed monthly pay for the first five years; regular appointment in the 7th Pay Commission scale follows only if your service is satisfactory. This rule stays subject to the Supreme Court's decision in SLP No. 14124/2012 and SLP No. 14125/2012.
• No food-business interest: anyone with a financial interest in making, importing or selling any food article cannot be appointed as a Food Safety Officer.
• Gujarat origin for reserved benefits: reserved posts and age relaxation apply only to SC, ST, SEBC and EWS candidates who are original residents of Gujarat. If you are in a reserved category but apply against an unreserved post, you get no relaxation.
• Women's quota: part of each category is set aside for women. If no eligible woman is found, those posts go to men of the same category, and the rest stay open to both on merit.
• Ex-servicemen: 10% of posts are reserved for ex-servicemen and adjusted within their own category. Those due to retire within one year of the closing date can also apply.
• PwD posts are separate: posts reserved for candidates with disabilities are notified under Advertisement No. 466/202627 (special recruitment drive). Candidates with low vision, hearing, locomotor, specific learning disability, mental illness and multiple disabilities in the listed ranges can still apply here.
• Bonus marks: widows who have not remarried and candidates who represented at national or international, inter-university or All India School Federation sports events get 5% of their exam marks added.
• Computer certificate: you can apply without one, but you must produce a basic computer knowledge certificate before appointment or your selection is cancelled.
• After joining: you must complete government training and pass the training exam.
• Posts may change: the board says the number of posts can go up or down.
• Exam rules: the Gujarat Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2023 applies to this exam, and you travel to your exam centre at your own cost.

Application Submission Notes

You need a One Time Registration (OTR) on OJAS before you can fill this form, so register first if you have not. Pay the fee online only after you have your confirmation number; the fee link has its own deadline and closes automatically.

• Only your last confirmed form counts: if you apply twice, earlier forms are cancelled and fees paid on them are not refunded.
• Category is locked: once you confirm, you cannot change your category. To fix a mistake, apply again before the closing date and pay the fee on the new confirmation number.
• Bank details: the form asks for your bank account and a passbook scan so the fee can be refunded after you sit the exam. These details cannot be corrected offline later.
• Photo: upload a recent white-background passport photo with the date printed on it, and keep four or five copies because the same photo is used at every stage.
• Scribe or extra time: candidates with benchmark disabilities who need a scribe or compensatory time must email the request to so-kh1-gsssb@gujarat.gov.in at least two days before the exam.
