GSSSB Food Safety Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview

Gujarat Subordinate Services Selection Board (GSSSB) is filling Food Safety Officer, Class-3 posts in the office of the Commissioner, Food and Drugs Control Administration, which runs under Gujarat's Health and Family Welfare Department. This is a Special Recruitment Drive only for persons with disabilities: it fills disability-reserved posts that earlier direct recruitments left empty. GSSSB has also released a separate general advertisement (No. 465/202627) for the same cadre, so make sure you pick Advt. No. 466/202627 on OJAS if you hold a benchmark disability.

The job suits science graduates and postgraduates: chemistry postgraduates and degree holders in food technology, dairy, agriculture, veterinary science, biochemistry, microbiology or medicine can all apply. If you already serve the Gujarat Government, the upper age limit can be relaxed for you under the state's 1967 recruitment rules.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Disability group match: You can apply only if your benchmark disability falls in a group that has a post reserved in this advertisement. The groups are Low Vision (A), Deaf and Hard of Hearing (B), locomotor disabilities including cerebral palsy, leprosy-cured, dwarfism and acid-attack victims (C), and specific learning disability, mental illness or multiple disabilities (D and E).
• Disability certificate: You need a certificate in Form V, VI or VII under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017. The older state-format certificate is no longer accepted.
• Category adjustment: This drive has no caste-wise split. Selected candidates are adjusted against their own category (SC/ST/SEBC/EWS) only if they are original residents of Gujarat; everyone else is counted as General.
• No separate quota: No posts are set aside separately for women or ex-servicemen in this drive.
• Food business interest: Anyone with a financial interest in making, importing or selling food cannot be appointed as a Food Safety Officer.
• Language and computer skills: You need working knowledge of Gujarati, Hindi or both. If you do not yet hold a basic computer-knowledge certificate you can still apply, but you must produce one before you get the appointment order.
• Fixed-pay period: You work on fixed monthly pay for the first five years and move to the regular pay scale only if your service is found satisfactory. This is subject to the Supreme Court's decision in SLP No. 14124/2012 and 14125/2012.
• Unfilled posts: If no suitable candidate is found in a disability group, that post is carried forward to the next recruitment round.
• Bonus marks: Candidates who represented at national or international, inter-university or All India School Federation sports events, and widow candidates who have not remarried, get 5% extra marks on their exam score.
• Training: After appointment you must complete the government training and pass its exam.
• Post count can change: The number of posts in this advertisement may go up or down.

Application Submission Notes

GSSSB accepts applications only online through OJAS. You need an OJAS One Time Registration (OTR) number first, because the form opens through the "Apply with OTR" option. After you confirm the form, pay the fee online by debit card, net banking, UPI or wallet and save the receipt. A form without a generated fee receipt is not valid.

If you submit more than one form, only the last confirmed application counts, and fees paid on earlier forms are neither refunded nor carried over. Enter your bank details carefully: the fee is refunded to candidates who sit the exam, and bank details cannot be corrected offline later. Upload a recent white-background photo that carries the date it was taken, and use copies of the same photo at every stage.
