About This Job

DHS Nicobar (under the National Health Mission) is hiring 5 contractual staff across two posts — Public Health Nurse (PHN) and TBHV-NTEP — in primary health centres and hospitals across the Nicobar district. The Office of the District Health Society, Nicobar District has released a vacancy notice (File No. M-17030(11)/77/2024-O/O DHS-DCNIC) for filling 5 contractual posts under the National Health Mission programme. The posts are spread across BJRH Car Nicobar, PHC Teressa, PHC Campbell Bay, PHC Gandhi Nagar and CHC Nancowrie. Selection is purely on merit based on qualifications and experience — there is no written exam. You should be ready to work in remote and hard-to-reach island areas.

Who Can Apply?

For Public Health Nurse (PHN) - 3 Posts

  • You must have passed 10+2 (All India Senior School Certificate Examination) or equivalent
  • PLUS Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (3½ years) AND a One Year Diploma in Public Health Nursing, OR
  • A Basic B.Sc Nursing degree (4 years) from a recognised university
  • You must be registered with the Nursing Council of India

For TBHV-NTEP - 2 Posts

  • Graduate in Science, OR
  • Intermediate (10+2) in Science with experience working as MPW/LHV/ANM/Health Worker, plus a certificate or higher course in Health Education / Counselling, OR
  • A recognised Tuberculosis Health Visitor's course
  • You must also have a Certificate course in computer operations (minimum 2 months)
  • Preference is given to candidates with MPW training or a recognised sanitary inspector course

Salary

  • Public Health Nurse (PHN): Rs. 21,632 per month (consolidated)
  • TBHV-NTEP: Rs. 18,434 per month (consolidated)
  • You will also receive Hard Area Allowance as per NHM norms
  • The engagement is for an initial period of 11 months and may be extended based on performance

Selection Process

Selection is purely merit-based — there is no written exam.

  1. Merit List Preparation: Based on your qualifications and experience
  2. Publication of Merit List: The merit list will be published in The Daily Telegram, on the AN Website, and on the DHS-Nicobar notice board
  3. Claims and Objections: A grace period of 7 days will be given for claims and objections
  4. Document Verification of selected candidates

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary nursing care and maternal-child health services at the assigned PHC or CHC
  • Conduct community health visits and immunisation drives in remote island villages
  • Identify, screen and follow up tuberculosis patients under the NTEP programme
  • Maintain medical records, registers and monthly reports as per NHM guidelines
  • Assist medical officers during outpatient clinics, ward duties and emergency cases
  • Counsel patients and families on disease prevention, nutrition and treatment adherence
  • Coordinate with ASHAs, ANMs and field workers for community outreach
  • Work in hard-to-reach areas of Nicobar district as per the duty roster

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

10+2 with GNM Diploma + Public Health Nursing Diploma or B.Sc Nursing (for PHN); Graduate in Science or 10+2 with health worker experience (for TBHV-NTEP)

Preferred Qualification

MPW training or recognised sanitary inspector course (for TBHV-NTEP)

Required Skills

Nursing council registration (PHN); Computer operations certificate (TBHV-NTEP)
