About This Job

CSIR-NML Jamshedpur is hiring 15 Project Staff posts through walk-in interviews for different research projects. If you have a 3-year Diploma, B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech, M.Sc., GATE, NET, JRF or SRF-level qualification in the listed science and engineering fields, you can attend the interview. Reporting is open from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on 9 July 2026 and 10 July 2026, based on the project group. Salary ranges from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 42,000 per month plus HRA.

CSIR-NML Project Staff Recruitment 2026 - 15 Posts

CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, a laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, has issued Advertisement No. T/PS/03/2026 dated 24 June 2026. The notice covers Project Assistant-II, Project Associate-I, Project Associate-II, Project-JRF and Project-SRF positions for time-bound projects in metallurgy, materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics and allied areas. Group-wise interview schedule: Group-A and Group-B report on 9 July 2026. Group-C and Group-D report on 10 July 2026. The projects include low-carbon aluminium killed steel, CRNO steel for EV motors, galvannealed coating, MXenes, rare-earth pyrochlores, Dokra handicrafts, coal/mineral assessment, silicon recovery from solar panels, battery recycling, electrolytic manganese metal and tungsten powder recycling.

Who Can Apply?

Project Assistant-II

  • Qualification: You need a 3-year Diploma in the relevant engineering branch or B.Sc. Chemistry where the project allows it.
  • Relevant branches: Mechanical, Chemical, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemistry are mentioned across PA-II projects.

Project Associate-I and Project Associate-II

  • Project Associate-I: You need B.E./B.Tech in the relevant engineering field or M.Sc. in the listed science field, depending on the project.
  • Higher PAT-I salary: Rs. 31,000 + HRA applies if you have qualified CSIR-UGC, ICAR or ICMR NET, including lectureship/assistant professorship, GATE, or equivalent national-level examination.
  • Project Associate-II: You need M.E./M.Tech in a relevant branch, or B.E./B.Tech with 2 years of R&D experience in industrial, academic or scientific organisations.

Project-JRF and Project-SRF

  • Project-JRF: You need B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and must satisfy the NET/GATE or national-level selection route mentioned in the notice.
  • Project-SRF: You need M.E./M.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and the same qualifying route as mentioned for SRF-level engagement.
  • Nationality: The walk-in is for Indian nationals only.

Age Limit

  • Project Assistant-II: Upper age limit is 35 years.
  • Project Associate-I and Project Associate-II: Upper age limit is 35 years.
  • Project-JRF: Upper age limit is 28 years.
  • Project-SRF: Upper age limit is 32 years.

Salary

  • Project Assistant-II: Rs. 20,000 per month plus HRA.
  • Project Associate-I: Rs. 25,000 per month plus HRA, or Rs. 31,000 per month plus HRA for NET/GATE/equivalent qualified candidates.
  • Project Associate-II: Rs. 28,000 per month plus HRA, or Rs. 35,000 per month plus HRA for qualifying national-level examination route.
  • Project-JRF: Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA.
  • Project-SRF: Rs. 42,000 per month plus HRA.

Application Fee

Responsibilities

  • Handle laboratory experiments for metallurgy, materials science, chemistry and engineering projects
  • Prepare samples, test records, project data and technical notes for the project team
  • Operate research equipment carefully under the project investigator or scientist in charge
  • Assist in mechanical testing, heat treatment, characterization and chemical processing work where assigned
  • Follow CSIR-NML laboratory safety rules, project timelines and documentation procedures
  • Manage project materials, observations and basic reports for review by scientists
  • Support field, pilot-scale or lab-scale trials connected with the assigned research project

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

3-year Diploma, B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech or M.Sc. in relevant engineering/science discipline as per post; NET/GATE or equivalent route required for Project-JRF/Project-SRF and higher PAT stipend where applicable

Preferred Qualification

Valid GATE score and project-relevant knowledge in heat treatment, mechanical testing, characterization, alloy development, electrical steels, physical metallurgy, thermomechanical processing or crystallographic texture where mentioned
