CSIR-CSMCRI Project Associate and Project Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSIR-CSMCRI), Bhavnagar — a laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) — is hiring a Project Associate-I and a Project Assistant-II. Both posts sit in project CLP 1232, an industry project sponsored by IOCL that is developing hollow fibre membranes to separate CO2 from biogas and PSA off-gas.

This is contract work tied to the project, not a permanent CSIR job. It suits chemical or mechanical engineering graduates and engineering diploma holders who want hands-on experience in membrane and gas-separation research at a national laboratory in Gujarat.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Associate-I (PAT-I): the graduate-engineer post on the membrane project, open to B.Tech/B.E. holders in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Technology. The pay is higher if you have cleared CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET, GATE or a similar national-level exam.
• Project Assistant-II (PA-II): the technical support post on the same project, meant for holders of a 3-year diploma in engineering or technology.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Both posts are purely temporary and end when the project ends.
• Six-year cap: Your total time as project staff across projects at CSIR-CSMCRI or any other CSIR lab cannot go beyond six years.
• No claim to a regular job: The engagement gives you no right to regular appointment, extension or absorption at CSIR-CSMCRI.
• HRA: House rent allowance follows the Government of India rules that apply to CSIR employees.
• Final-year students: Students in their final semester or year who are still waiting for results cannot apply.
• Provisional certificates: If your degree certificate has not arrived, a provisional certificate with mark sheets is accepted at the interview, along with your request letter or email to the university.
• Experience proof: Certificates must show duration, place of work and position; contractual work experience is not counted.
• CGPA conversion: Convert grades into a percentage using your university's formula and attach the conversion document.
• Interview travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
