About This Job
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, is hiring 1 Member Secretary in Delhi on a deputation basis (including short-term contract). This post is for serving government officers with a Master's degree in Science or a degree in Engineering and at least 12 years of Group-A experience. The pay is Pay Level 13A (Rs. 1,31,100 to Rs. 2,16,600 per month) as per the 7th Pay Commission. The last date to apply is 9 July 2026.
Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) Member Secretary Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) was set up under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and works on preventing and controlling pollution across India. The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change has invited applications for the post of Member Secretary, a full-time top-level position at the CPCB head office in Delhi. This is a deputation post open to officers already working in the Central Government, State Government, PSUs, universities, government research institutions, or autonomous/statutory bodies. Applications must be sent through proper channel.
Who Can Apply?
You must be an officer of the Central Government, State Government, Public Sector Undertaking, University, Government Research Institution, or an Autonomous/Statutory Body.
Service Condition (any one)
- You hold an analogous post on a regular basis in your parent cadre or department, OR
- You have 2 years of service in Pay Level 13 (7th CPC), OR
- You have 6 years of service in Pay Level 12 (7th CPC), or equivalent in your parent cadre.
Essential Qualification and Experience
- Master's degree in Science or a degree in Engineering from a recognised institute or university (or equivalent), AND
- 12 years of experience in regular Group-A posts, not below Pay Level 11 (7th CPC), at an administrative or managerial level, with practical experience in the scientific, engineering or management aspects of pollution control.
Desirable Qualification
- Ph.D. in Science relating to Environment, or M.Tech in Engineering in an environment-related discipline.
Age Limit
- The maximum age limit for appointment by deputation is 56 years as on the closing date of the receipt of applications.
Salary
- You will be paid in Pay Level 13A: Rs. 1,31,100 to Rs. 2,16,600 per month under the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix.
- This is equal to the old 6th CPC Pay Band of Rs. 37,400 to Rs. 67,000 with Grade Pay of Rs. 8,900.
- You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Central Government rules.
Selection Process
Selection is based on the following:
- Screening of Applications: Applications received through proper channel within the due date are checked against the eligibility criteria.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview. Outstation candidates get to-and-fro economy air fare or 1st AC train fare on submission of travel documents.
Note: Applications not received through proper channel within the due date will be rejected.

Responsibilities
- Head the day-to-day administration of the Central Pollution Control Board as a full-time officer
- Implement the Board's decisions on prevention and control of water and air pollution
- Coordinate scientific, engineering and management work related to pollution control
- Guide and supervise CPCB technical and administrative staff
- Work with State Pollution Control Boards and other agencies on national pollution programmes
- Advise the Board and the Ministry on environmental and pollution control matters
- Ensure proper functioning of CPCB offices, laboratories and projects

Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Science or a degree in Engineering from a recognised institute/university, with 12 years of regular Group-A experience (not below Pay Level 11)
