Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and one of India's oldest and most respected cancer-care and research centres. Through Advertisement No. 020/2026, CNCI is filling 2 posts on a contract basis under the PBCR project in Kolkata. The job is initially for 6 months and can be extended based on the project and the needs of the institute.

The Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) records every new cancer case in a defined area, and this data helps doctors and researchers understand how common different cancers are and plan better treatment and prevention. As a Project Assistant or Data Entry Operator, you will help gather and enter this health data. Because this is a walk-in selection, you do not need to apply online in advance — you simply bring the filled form and your documents on the interview day. Project Assistant (Rs. 31,000/month)

• A Graduate degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Social Sciences, Medical Social Work or Psychology with 3 years of experience in a relevant field, OR
• A Master's degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Social Sciences, Medical Social Work or Psychology (no experience needed).
• Preferred: field experience, scientific proposal writing, knowledge of statistical tools, computer skills, health research studies, and experience in data collection and handling.

Data Entry Operator (Rs. 17,000/month)

• A Bachelor's degree from a recognised university or institute.
• A typing speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on a computer.

Age Limit

• Project Assistant: maximum 35 years.
• Data Entry Operator: maximum 25 years.
• Age is counted as on the last date of receipt of application (7 July 2026).
• Age relaxation is given as per Government of India rules.

Salary

• Project Assistant: consolidated Rs. 31,000 per month.
• Data Entry Operator: consolidated Rs. 17,000 per month.
• This is a fixed monthly pay for a contract post under the project.

Application Fee

• EWS candidates: Rs. 200 (paid online to the SBI account given in the notification).
• Women and PwBD candidates: No fee.
• The notification states only the EWS fee of Rs. 200; no separate fee is mentioned for General, OBC, SC or ST candidates. Keep your online payment receipt and carry it to the walk-in.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is done at the walk-in event in these steps:

1. Shortlisting: The institute checks your qualification and experience against the criteria it has fixed. Only candidates who clearly match the requirement are considered.
2. Walk-In Interview / Test: Attend the interview on 7 July 2026. The panel checks your subject knowledge and suitability for the project. Data Entry Operator candidates also take a typing test to confirm the required speed.
