Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani), Hyderabad Campus is engaging a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in its Department of Physics for an ANRF-PMECRG-funded research project. The work sits at the meeting point of condensed matter physics, orbitronics and quantum devices, with a practical focus on energy-efficient switching for magnetic-memory technology.

The project, titled Beyond Heavy Metals: Leveraging Orbitronics in Light Metals for Energy-Efficient in-plane Magnetization Switching in Magnetic Memory Devices, explores whether lighter materials can support useful spin-orbit effects without relying on conventional heavy-metal systems. You would join the group supervised by Dr. Debanjan Polley and work in the research environment of the Hyderabad campus.

This is a useful opening if you want to build a research profile in thin films, nanostructures, magnetism and device-oriented physics. The notification especially points to experimental exposure involving SEM, XRD and VSM, while also leaving room for candidates whose main strength is a sound foundation in solid-state physics and optics. National-level qualifications such as NET or GATE are desirable, but the call does not make them the only route into the selection process.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: The engagement is linked to an ANRF-PMECRG project running for 36 months, so it is not a regular institute appointment.
