All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kalyani Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The Department of Microbiology at AIIMS Kalyani has released Advertisement No. MCRBIO/RES/6/2024-MICROB/1127 to fill 1 JRF post for an ICMR-funded extramural project titled “Fingerprinting of antigenic variation of the venoms of the dominant killer snakes of West Bengal and development of POCT for diagnosis of acute envenomation cases.” This is purely a temporary, contractual position for 6 months, extendable based on performance and project funding. It's a great opportunity if you're interested in venom research, immunology, or molecular biology.
AIIMS Kalyani is a statutory body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, located on the NH-34 connector in Basantapur, Saguna, Kalyani, in Nadia district of West Bengal. This particular project aims to study antigenic variation in the venom of West Bengal's deadliest snake species and build a point-of-care test (POCT) that can quickly diagnose acute snakebite envenomation — a serious public health problem in rural Bengal. As a JRF, you'll work directly under Dr. Sayantan Banerjee, Principal Investigator, in the Department of Microbiology.
About the Project
This JRF post is funded under an ICMR extramural grant, and is tied to the specific research goal of the study rather than a permanent institutional role. As a JRF, you will support work that examines how the venom composition of dominant killer snake species in West Bengal varies across regions and individuals, and how this variation affects diagnosis. The long-term aim of the project is to build a rapid point-of-care test kit that doctors and health workers can use to quickly confirm snakebite envenomation in the field, which can be critical in saving lives during medical emergencies in rural and semi-urban Bengal.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: Post Graduate degree in Biological Sciences (or equivalent) OR Graduate degree in Veterinary Science.
- Desirable: Experience in venomics, protein/peptide analysis, molecular biology techniques, or serological assay development, along with knowledge of immunology and computer applications.
- If you have a background in zoology, biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, or veterinary science, and have worked with lab-based molecular or serological techniques before, you have a strong chance for this role.
Age Limit
- The maximum age for this post is 30 years.
Salary
- You will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 25,000 per month.
- No other allowances will be paid apart from the consolidated salary.
- No hostel or accommodation is provided for this position.
- The appointment can be terminated by either side with 30 days' notice, or salary in lieu of notice.
- Your leave entitlement will be governed by the DHR MRU Scheme leave policy.
- The appointment is full-time, and you are expected to follow the institute's rules and discipline once selected.
Selection Process
The selection will be done as follows:
- Application via Google Form: You need to submit your details along with age proof, qualification, and experience certificates merged into a single PDF.
- Written Test and/or Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview, conducted offline only at AIIMS Kalyani.
The shortlist, interview date, and venue will be published on the AIIMS Kalyani website — no individual communication will be sent. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
Note that this appointment is purely temporary and contractual for 6 months, and can be extended depending on your performance and whether project funding continues. It will automatically end when the tenure is over or if the funding is withdrawn. Simply meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee you a spot — the Selection Committee's decision on shortlisting and final selection is final.
