MITRA Senior Consultant Health Recruitment 2026: Overview

Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) is engaging a Senior Consultant for Health and Nutrition to shape programmes addressing malnutrition, obesity and related non-communicable health conditions across Maharashtra. This is a strategic role for someone who can connect public-health evidence with programme design and practical delivery. The assignment combines policy advice, research and implementation leadership, with a clear focus on solutions that can work at scale within the state.

The consultant will support MITRA in building health and nutrition policies and projects around reliable data, field realities and current research. The role reaches beyond writing reports: it calls for programme leadership, coordination and problem-solving across government, development organisations, civil-society groups and technical partners. You will also help the institution judge which innovations in nutrition, supplementation, diversification and fortification are suitable for Maharashtra.

Day-to-day work will move between analysis and delivery. You may review programme evidence, frame practical recommendations, help clear implementation bottlenecks and bring outside expertise into policy discussions. Your advice is expected to be decision-ready, so findings should be presented in a way that senior leaders and programme teams can act on.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Contract tenure: The initial contract runs for one year and may be extended for a further two years. Any extension depends on MITRA's decision and is not automatic.
  • Senior reporting line: The consultant will report to the CEO of MITRA and will be expected to work with substantial independence while keeping leadership informed.
  • Statewide scope: The work covers health and nutrition challenges across Maharashtra, so recommendations must account for different regional needs and implementation settings.
  • Leadership expectation: MITRA is looking for someone who can plan complex initiatives, make sound decisions, assess delivery risks and build cooperation among diverse stakeholders.
  • Evidence of results: Your track record should be supported by a documentary reference, such as a supervisor or stakeholder reference, a published paper or a published news article. Claims about programme results should be demonstrable.
  • Lien option: Experts currently working with government bodies, multilateral development organisations, international aid agencies, established NGOs or consulting companies may be offered on lien for one year.
  • Partnership work: The assignment involves government stakeholders, outside consultants, sector experts and programme partners. Strong professional communication and negotiation are therefore central to the role.
  • Policy orientation: The consultant is expected to compare practices from other regions, adapt useful ideas to Maharashtra and help identify workable resources for sustained programme implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of health and nutrition policies and programmes
  • Develop evidence-based approaches to malnutrition, obesity and related health conditions
  • Monitor programme progress with data and identify delivery risks or bottlenecks
  • Coordinate with government stakeholders, development partners and sector experts
  • Research global best practices and adapt useful approaches for Maharashtra
  • Prepare recommendations and present clear findings to senior decision-makers
  • Guide the adoption of suitable nutrition innovations and fortification practices
  • Manage partnerships and resources needed for sustainable programme delivery
