IIT Roorkee JRF and RA Recruitment 2025: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is hiring Junior Research Fellows and a Research Associate in its Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The team will work on the project Towards Trusted-Node-Free Hybrid Quantum Secure Communication Networks, sponsored through the National Quantum Mission and the Department of Science and Technology.

This is a focused research opportunity for candidates interested in quantum key distribution, FPGA prototyping and secure-network engineering. The project combines experimental hardware, routing and software work, so it suits researchers who are comfortable moving between laboratory testbeds, code and technical documentation.

The central research challenge is to build hybrid quantum-secure networks without relying on trusted intermediate nodes. Your contribution may therefore connect device-level experiments with routing logic and network software, while keeping enough technical evidence for reviews, reports and later research publications.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Research Fellow: works on quantum key distribution development, FPGA prototypes, quantum routing, software and project documentation.
• Research Associate: takes greater ownership of quantum experiments, testbed setup, software development, project delivery and budget records.

Post-wise Duties

Junior Research Fellow

You will help develop QKD components and routing workflows, prototype designs on FPGA hardware and support the software needed for the research network. You will also keep experiment notes and prepare technical material for project reviews.

Research Associate

You will set up and run quantum communication experiments, guide testbed work and contribute to production-quality research software. The role also includes coordinating project tasks and preparing reports and budget-related documents for the principal investigator.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: the initial engagement is for two years and may continue with the project up to March 2031.
• Research progression: a selected candidate may receive an opportunity to seek PhD admission; this is an opportunity, not an automatic admission.
• Reservation preference: SC and ST candidates receive preference when qualifications and experience are otherwise equal.
• Rolling review: the notice remains open until the positions are filled, so availability may change after the first review round.
• Citizenship: the project notice is open to Indian nationals.
• Work base: research and testbed activity is attached to the Electronics and Communication Engineering department at IIT Roorkee.
