IIT Jammu Research Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) is recruiting a Research Associate for a National Technical Textiles Mission project on low-cost prosthetics. Based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the project brings together advanced textiles, composite materials, electronics and biomedical engineering to develop practical assistive technology. The assignment connects engineering development with clinical validation, giving the research a clear route from laboratory work to healthcare use.
The funded project is titled Low-cost Prosthetics Design and Fabrication using Advanced Textile and Composites Technology. Its interdisciplinary scope means the team must bring sensors, electronic hardware and new material systems into one working prosthetic design. Clinical trials are part of the project setting, so the research is expected to account for real-world performance and not stop at a laboratory prototype.
The work is led by Professor Durai Prabhakaran R T at IIT Jammu's Jagti campus. The notice also builds in collaboration with the Department of Orthopaedics at AIIMS Rishikesh, placing the project across an engineering institute and a clinical partner. This cross-institution arrangement is an important practical feature of the role, especially for planning experiments, sharing results and coordinating access to facilities.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project tenure: The initial engagement is for six months and may continue based on your performance or until the project ends, whichever comes first. The position remains tied to the funded project, so an extension is not automatic.
- Work split: The selected researcher must spend 15% of the work assignment at AIIMS Rishikesh with the Department of Orthopaedics under Professor Roop Bhoosan Kalia. You should be prepared to coordinate across the Jammu and Rishikesh teams.
- Progress condition: The notice links continuation to visible work progress and states that a researcher unable to demonstrate progress may have to return two months of salary as a penalty. Read this condition carefully before accepting the offer.
- Shortlisting: Meeting the formal requirements does not guarantee an interview call. IIT Jammu may shortlist applicants according to merit and the project's needs, and shortlisted applicants will receive interview details by email.
- Interview format: The interaction may be held online or offline. If you are called, keep the contact details in your application active so that you do not miss the schedule.
- Current employment: If you are already working, you must provide a relieving certificate from your employer when selected.
