CPCB Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, is filling posts across nine different categories for the Strengthening of Environmental Regulators (SER)-Phase-III Project on the River Ganga. The project is funded by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under the Namami Gange Programme, and runs up to May 2028 with a possible extension. This is a mixed technical and administrative drive spanning Scientist, finance, data-entry and field-support roles, so candidates from engineering, environmental science, commerce and even 10+2 backgrounds can find a fitting post. Selected candidates will directly support the fight against pollution in the Ganga basin, working alongside CPCB's Regional Directorates and State Pollution Control Boards.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Scientist-D, Scientist-C and Scientist-B: the largest group of posts, for environmental science or engineering graduates with a research or field-experience background in river and industrial pollution control.
  • Assistant Manager (Finance): handles the project's accounts, taxation and payroll for commerce postgraduates or chartered accountants.
  • Administrative Assistant: supports the project office with noting, drafting and general administration.
  • Scientific Assistant: assists the Scientist cadre with environmental data and lab work; open to the same science and engineering disciplines.
  • Taxonomist: a specialist post for candidates with an M.Sc, ideally with a Botany or Zoology background.
  • Data Entry Operator: handles project data entry and MS Office work for science or BCA graduates.
  • Field Assistant: supports on-ground water and wastewater sampling, open to 10+2 (Science) candidates.

Post-wise Duties

Scientist Cadre (D/C/B)

You will monitor river and industrial pollution, analyse water and effluent quality data, and provide technical input for pollution-control decisions under the SER-Phase-III project.

Assistant Manager (Finance)

You will manage project accounts, prepare vouchers, file statutory returns such as TDS and GST, and handle payroll for the project team.

Administrative Assistant and Scientific Assistant

You will support day-to-day project administration, noting and drafting, and assist the Scientist cadre with environmental data collection and record-keeping.

Taxonomist, Data Entry Operator and Field Assistant

You will identify and classify biological samples (Taxonomist), maintain project data on computer (Data Entry Operator), or carry out on-site water and wastewater sampling (Field Assistant).

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Contract basis: All posts are purely temporary and co-terminus with the SER-Phase-III project; there is no claim to regularization or absorption into CPCB's regular vacancies.
  • Posting: Selected candidates may be posted at the Regional Directorates in Lucknow, Kolkata or Chandigarh, or at CPCB Head Office, Delhi, at the Board's discretion.
  • No reservations: These posts carry no category-wise reservation, and no age relaxation is given to in-service candidates, ex-servicemen or any other group.
  • NOC requirement: Candidates currently working in a Government, PSU or Autonomous body must produce a No Objection Certificate from their employer at document verification.
  • Post flexibility: The number of posts on offer can increase or decrease as per CPCB's requirement, and the Board may withdraw or modify the advertisement at any stage.
