  • Candidates registered for Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 may also be exempt if they meet specific conditions (regular mode study, 2 external examiners, open viva voce, 2 research papers published including 1 in a refereed journal, and 2 conference presentations)

Category II — Music, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Sculpture, and other Traditional Indian Art Forms:

  • Master's Degree in a relevant subject with at least 55% marks + NET/SET, OR
  • Traditional or professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement who has studied under reputed traditional masters, is a high-grade artist of AIR/TV, and has the ability to explain the logical reasoning and theory of the subject

Important note on marks relaxation: SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-abled candidates get a 5% relaxation at both Bachelor's and Master's level (i.e., 55% becomes 50%). Ph.D. holders who completed their Master's degree before 19 September 1991 also get this 5% relaxation.

You must also have proficiency (spoken and written) in the medium of instruction of the college you apply for. This is mandatory — no relaxation is available for the language requirement.

Note on reservation benefits: SC/ST/OBC/EWS reservation benefits for age, marks relaxation, and application fee are available only to West Bengal state candidates. Candidates from other states will be treated as General category candidates.
