Utkal University, established in 1943 and headquartered at the Vani Vihar campus in Bhubaneswar, has released notification number Estt.I/1041(Vol-IV) No. 5791 dated 18 May 2026 for filling 51 Assistant Professor posts (including backlog vacancies) across 23 academic departments. The recruitment covers Arts, Sciences, Commerce, Management and Pharmaceutical Sciences disciplines under UGC eligibility criteria (UGC Notification 18 July 2018 and subsequent amendments). This is one of Odisha's largest faculty recruitment drives of 2026 at a 460-acre state university that anchors nearly 430 affiliated colleges across the state.

Who Can Apply?

  • Nationality: You must be an Indian Citizen or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).
  • Qualification: Master's Degree with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) in the concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from a foreign accredited institution.
  • NET/SET/PhD: You must have cleared the UGC NET / UGC-CSIR NET / SET / SLET, OR hold a PhD degree awarded as per UGC Regulations 2009 / 2016 as applicable.
  • Specialization: Specialization mentioned in the notification is desirable, not mandatory, except for Philosophy (Continental Philosophy) and one Physics post (Electronics/Instrumentation/Computer Science).

Age Limit

  • The notification follows UGC eligibility criteria for Assistant Professor posts.
  • Age relaxation as per Government of Odisha and UGC rules for SC/ST/SEBC/PWD/Women categories.

Salary

  • Assistant Professors are appointed in Academic Level 10 (Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 per month) as per 7th CPC Pay Matrix and UGC pay scale.

Selection Process

Selection is based on:

  1. Screening / Scrutiny: The University will scrutinise applications and shortlist eligible candidates based on UGC criteria.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview by the Selection Committee. Performance in the interview, along with academic record, NET/PhD qualifications and research work, will decide final selection.
  3. Document Verification: All original documents will be verified at the time of interview.

There is no written examination for this recruitment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the assigned department as per the approved curriculum
  • Prepare lesson plans, study materials, lab manuals and question papers for semester examinations
  • Guide MPhil and PhD research scholars and supervise their dissertations
  • Conduct independent research and publish papers in UGC-CARE and Scopus-indexed journals
  • Evaluate student assignments, term papers, internal assessments and final examinations
  • Participate in Board of Studies, Academic Council and departmental committee meetings
  • Attend faculty development programmes, workshops, seminars and refresher courses
  • Take part in administrative duties assigned by the Head of Department or Vice-Chancellor

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Master's Degree with at least 55% marks in the relevant subject (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) plus UGC NET/SET/SLET qualified OR PhD as per UGC Regulations

Preferred Qualification
