Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) Workmen Recruitment 2026 - 35 Posts

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, has released Vacancy Notification No. UCSL/IMS/HR/VN/F/11-PF-W-E-MF/83. This recruitment is for permanent Workmen category posts at Malpe in Karnataka. The biggest point to note is that Karnataka domicile is required for these reserved posts.

The recruitment is useful for trade candidates who already have hands-on industrial experience. UCSL is filling 10 Pipe Fitter, 10 Welder, 10 Electrician and 5 Machinery Fitter posts. The selection has an offline objective test for 30 marks and a practical test for 70 marks, so your trade skill matters strongly.

Who Can Apply?

Pipe Fitter

• Qualification: ITI National Trade Certificate in Fitter, Plumber or Sanitary Fitter, or NSFQ level equivalent qualification.
• Experience: You need 2 years post-qualification experience in pipe spool fabrication, erection, cutting, grinding, beveling, fit up, alignment, pipe supports, pipe testing, valves, flushing and related work.

Welder

• Qualification: ITI National Trade Certificate in Welder, or NSFQ level equivalent qualification.
• Experience: You need 2 years post-qualification experience in gas cutting, welding, gouging, flame heating, chipping, grinding, staging, handling and welding standards.

Electrician

• Qualification: ITI National Trade Certificate in Electrician, Wireman or Electronic Mechanic, or NSFQ level equivalent qualification.
• Experience: You need 2 years post-qualification experience with substations, HT/LT switchgears, transformers, electrical equipment, layouts, SLD and wiring standards.

Machinery Fitter

• Qualification: ITI National Trade Certificate in Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Machinist or Instrument Mechanic, or NSFQ level equivalent qualification.
• Experience: You need 2 years post-qualification experience with machine tools, bearing replacement, shaft alignment, coupling fitting, machinery drawings, pumps, generators, compressors and engines.

Age Limit

• Maximum age is 30 years as on 17 July 2026.
• You should be born on or after 18 July 1996.
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years relaxation for posts reserved for OBC.
• SC/ST: 5 years relaxation for posts reserved for SC/ST.
• Ex-servicemen: Relaxation as per Government of India rules, subject to a maximum age of 40 years.

Salary

• Pay scale: W4, Rs. 17,000-3%-61,020.
• Current basic pay: Rs. 17,000.
• Current monthly gross pay: Rs. 29,997, including basic pay, DA, HRA, fuel reimbursement and washing allowance as listed in the notification.
• Other benefits: National Pension System, Contributory Provident Fund, gratuity, accident insurance coverage and earned leave encashment as admissible.

• General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 400 plus bank charges.
• SC / ST: No application fee.

Selection Process

The UCSL Workmen selection has 2 main test phases for a total of 100 marks. There is also certificate verification before the practical test.

1. Phase I - Objective Offline Test: 30 questions for 30 marks in 35 minutes. It has General Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude and Trade-related questions. There is no negative marking.
2. Certificate Verification: UCSL will shortlist candidates based on objective test marks and eligibility, generally in the ratio required to call enough candidates against each post.
3. Phase II - Practical Test: Relevant trade practical test for 70 marks.
4. Final Merit: Rank list is based on aggregate marks of the objective test and practical test, subject to meeting eligibility and minimum pass marks.
5. Medical Examination: Appointment is subject to medical fitness as prescribed by UCSL.
