National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), is hiring a Scientific Assistant for its Electronic Workshop in Bengaluru under Advertisement No. 12/2026. NCBS is a life-sciences research institute, and its shared facilities support not only its own scientists but also researchers from other universities and industry, both in India and abroad.

The Electronic Workshop is where lab groups turn ideas into working hardware — custom circuits, 3D-printed parts, sensor rigs and microcontroller-driven prototypes for experiments. If you are a diploma holder in Electronics and Communication Engineering who enjoys building and debugging things with your hands, this role puts you right inside a working research campus.

This is a fixed-term engagement, not a permanent post. You start on a one-year term that is renewed each year only if your performance review goes well.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The position runs for one year at first and can be renewed annually, subject to the outcome of a performance assessment.
• Pay basis: You get a consolidated salary fixed on the basis of your qualification and experience, following institute guidelines. The notice does not publish a fixed figure.
• Hands-on skills expected: The workshop wants people with real bench experience in 3D printer modelling and programming, PCB design, SMD soldering, circuit debugging, and programming boards such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi with sensors.
• Experience must be relevant: Your two years of experience should come from work in electronic workshops in the areas listed above, not from unrelated jobs.
• Diploma conditions: The diploma must be full-time, from a recognised university or institute, with at least 60% aggregate marks.
• Right not to fill: NCBS may increase, reduce or not fill the post, and may choose not to fill it at all if no suitable candidate is found.
• Canvassing: Any form of canvassing disqualifies you.
• Jurisdiction: Any legal dispute about this recruitment falls under courts in Bangalore.
