Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Senior Associate Consultant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), a statutory body set up under the TRAI Act, 1997, has released Vacancy Circular No. C-3/2026-27 to engage 1 Senior Associate Consultant Grade-I (Technical) on contract basis in its Broadcasting & Cable Services (B&CS) Division at TRAI Headquarters, New Delhi. TRAI was set up to regulate telecom services and protect the interests of both service providers and consumers, and to promote orderly growth of the telecom sector. Since 2004, TRAI has also been given the responsibility of regulating Broadcasting and Cable Services. This Consultant role sits inside that Broadcasting mandate. The initial contract is for one year and may be extended further based on TRAI's requirements and mutual consent, and your engagement will be governed by TRAI's official Consultant Guidelines. The number of vacancies is tentative and may vary as per TRAI's requirement.
TRAI has regional offices across the country in addition to its New Delhi headquarters, and its core mandate covers telecom tariffs, licensing-related recommendations, interconnection rules, and consumer protection, alongside its newer Broadcasting and Cable Services responsibilities. As a Senior Associate Consultant, you will directly support the Authority in discharging its functions under the TRAI Act, 1997, working on real regulatory matters rather than routine administrative tasks. Your service terms will be governed by TRAI's Consultant Guidelines and the General Terms and Conditions enclosed with the vacancy circular.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Technology/Engineering or equivalent in Electronics, Communications, Electrical, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Data Science from a recognized university or institution.
- Preferred: A Master's Degree in the above disciplines is desirable.
- Experience: You need at least 4 years of post-qualification work experience in the Broadcasting or Telecom sector. Experience in the Broadcasting/Telecom regulatory domain — including drafting policy papers, consultation papers, recommendations or regulatory orders — is desirable.
- Skills: You should have strong analytical, communication (including technical writing), and interpersonal skills, and be a dynamic, self-motivated professional.
As a Senior Associate Consultant, you will work closely with the Authority on regulatory, technical and advisory functions — from studying global broadcasting practices to drafting Regulations, Tariff Orders and Directives, and monitoring how service providers comply with TRAI's rules. This is a good opportunity for engineers with telecom or broadcasting-sector experience who want exposure to policy-level regulatory work rather than a typical corporate technical role.
Age Limit
- Your age should not exceed 35 years as on 28 July 2026 (the date the vacancy circular was issued).
Salary
- You will get a fixed monthly remuneration of Rs. 1,20,000 per month.
- You will also get a fixed Transport Allowance of Rs. 8,000 per month.
- Your total fixed monthly package works out to Rs. 1,28,000, paid for the duration of your one-year contract.
There is no separate application fee for this post — TRAI has not prescribed any fee for Consultant engagements. This is a fixed consolidated pay role, so there are no annual increments during the one-year contract period; however, TRAI may extend your engagement and revise terms on mutual consent.
Selection Process
The selection will be done in 1 stage:
- Interview: Selection is not based merely on your experience and educational qualifications — the Selection Committee will assess your overall performance during a personal interview/interaction. TRAI's decision on selection is final and binding, and TRAI reserves all rights relating to your engagement.
How to Apply
- Go to the TRAI vacancy portal at vacancies.trai.gov.in.
- Register and fill in the online application form completely and correctly.
- Upload clear, self-attested copies of your date of birth proof (10th certificate, mark sheet, or birth certificate).

- Submit your application online before the last date.
Applications received through any mode other than online — including post or email — will not be considered. Incomplete applications may be rejected, so double check every field and document before you submit.
Keep your e-mail ID active and correctly entered in the application, since TRAI sends interview call letters and any further communication only by e-mail — there is no other mode of contact for shortlisted candidates.
