Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Combined Civil Services Examination - I (Group I Services) Recruitment 2026 - 26 Posts
TNPSC has released Notification No. 05/2026 for the Combined Civil Services Examination - I, commonly known as Group I Services. This recruitment covers 26 vacancies across 5 prestigious posts, including 12 Deputy Collector posts (including a backlog vacancy). Selection goes through 3 stages - a Preliminary Exam, a Main Exam, and an Interview - so both freshers and experienced graduates can apply.

Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You need a Bachelor's degree from any university recognized by the UGC, in any subject, to apply for all 5 posts.
- Preference for Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes): Candidates with B.Com + B.L. + Diploma in Taxation Laws get first preference, followed by B.Com + B.L., then B.Com or B.L. with the Diploma, and finally B.Com or B.L. alone.
- Preference for Assistant Commissioner of Labour: Freedom fighters and their family members get preference, other things being equal.
- Language: You should have adequate knowledge of Tamil (studied Tamil in school, or passed the Commission's Tamil language test).
- Vision: Standard III vision or better is required for all 5 posts.
Age Limit
- You should be at least 21 years old as on 01 July 2026 for all posts.
- Maximum age is 34 years for General category candidates (35 years if applying for Assistant Commissioner - Commercial Taxes with a B.L. degree).
- Age Relaxation: SC, SC(Arunthathiyar), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM) and BCM candidates can apply up to 39 years (40 years for B.L. degree holders applying for Assistant Commissioner - Commercial Taxes).
- Additional age relaxation is available for Persons with Benchmark Disability and Ex-Servicemen; this relaxation does not apply to Ex-servicemen already recruited to a government post.
Salary
- Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month under Pay Level 22 of the Tamil Nadu pay matrix - the same level applies to all 5 posts.
- You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Tamil Nadu government rules.

- One Time Registration (OTR) fee: Rs. 150 (one-time, valid for 5 years)
- Preliminary Examination fee: Rs. 100
- Main Examination fee (only if shortlisted): Rs. 200
- Candidates in exempted categories can avail fee concessions as per Commission rules.
- Payment mode: Online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI.
Selection Process
The selection will be done in 3 stages:
- Preliminary Examination: 200 objective questions for 300 marks in 3 hours. This is just a screening test - your Preliminary marks are not counted in the final merit.
- Main Examination: 4 descriptive papers - Tamil Eligibility Test (100 marks) and General Studies I, II and III (250 marks each). Marks from Papers II, III and IV count towards your final merit.
- Interview: 100 marks, with no minimum qualifying marks. This is where your personality, general knowledge and aptitude are assessed.
Candidates equal to 20 times the vacancies are called for the Main Examination, based on Preliminary Exam performance. A Medical Examination follows the Interview to verify medical and physical fitness.
