About This Job

TIFR Mumbai is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow or Project Associate-II to work in the nanocatalysis group at the Department of Chemical Sciences. You need an M.Sc in Chemistry to apply. TIFR Junior Research Fellow / Project Associate-II Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), an autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has released Advertisement No. 2026/9 for one position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) or Project Associate-II in the nanocatalysis group led by Prof. Vivek Polshettiwar at the Department of Chemical Sciences (DCS), TIFR Mumbai. The position is funded by an ANRF sponsored project. The selected candidate will work on synthesis, characterization, and catalytic applications of advanced nanomaterials.

For Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

For Project Associate-II

  • JRF: Rs. 37,000 per month + HRA (as admissible)

Selection Process

Selection is merit-based with no separate written exam for this advertisement. The shortlisting is done on the basis of qualifications, prior research experience, and the entrance test scores you already hold (GATE/NET/JEST/TIFR test).

Job Requirement

You will work on the ANRF sponsored project under Prof. Vivek Polshettiwar and contribute to the Nanocatalysis Research Program. The work involves:

  • Synthesis of advanced nanomaterials
  • Characterization using advanced structural techniques
  • Catalytic studies of newly designed nanocatalysts
  • Analysing structure-property relationships of nanocatalysts

Nature & Period of Post

  • The appointment is temporary, initially for 1 year
  • It can be extended up to a maximum of 3 years based on your performance
  • Selected candidates are not eligible for Ph.D. registration at TIFR during the project tenure
  • The position is purely project-based and co-terminus with the project — it does not give any claim to a permanent post at TIFR

Responsibilities

  • Synthesise novel nanocatalysts for the ANRF sponsored project
  • Characterise advanced nanomaterials using modern analytical techniques
  • Perform catalytic studies on the newly designed nanocatalysts
  • Analyse structure-property relationships of nanomaterials
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records of synthesis and characterisation work
  • Present research progress regularly to Prof. Vivek Polshettiwar and the group
  • Prepare research data for publication in peer-reviewed journals

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

M.Sc. in Chemistry. For JRF — GATE / NET / JEST / TIFR written entrance test qualification. For Project Associate-II — 2 years of research experience in academia or industry.

Preferred Qualification

Prior experience in nanocatalysis, synthesis and characterisation of nanomaterials, or catalysis research.

Required Skills

Synthesis of nanomaterials, characterisation techniques, catalytic studies, structure-property analysis, scientific writing.

Age Limit

18 - 28 years (as on 28 May 2026)

Pay Scale
