Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) is hiring a Young Professional at its Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI), Udumalpet. The post sits in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education and is tied to a research project funded by Farm Forward, USA. It is a short, fixed-term project engagement of ten months, filled through a walk-in written test and interview rather than an online form.

The project tests a participatory, context-specific livestock extension model that pushes sustainable livestock farming in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. In simple words, you will spend a lot of time with hill-district dairy and livestock farmers, collecting field data and helping the team see whether a farmer-led extension approach actually works on the ground.

The job suits graduates from veterinary, agricultural, economics, social work, biology or chemistry backgrounds who enjoy fieldwork. A postgraduate degree, past dairy or livestock survey work, experience mobilising farmers for meetings, and comfort with statistics and computers all earn extra credit, because the committee gives marks for desirable qualifications and recognitions too.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Temporary engagement: The appointment is purely temporary, and you cannot claim any regular TANUVAS service later.
• Field travel: You will travel often to the Nilgiris district and stay there for data collection; boarding and lodging after joining are your own responsibility.
• Two-wheeler licence: A valid driving licence for a two-wheeler is compulsory at the time of joining.
• Medical fitness: You must produce a medical fitness certificate when you join.
• Immediate joining: Once results are announced you must join straight away; no extension of joining time is given and the next person on the merit list is called instead.
• Notice before leaving: You must give 30 days' prior notice before quitting the job.
• Already employed: Bring a No Objection Certificate from your current employer.
• Travel costs: No TA or DA is paid for attending the walk-in, and the Selection Committee's decision on eligibility and selection is final.
