SVP NPA Assistant Director (Law) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post on Deputation
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVP NPA), the premier training institute under the Ministry of Home Affairs that trains IPS probationers, has released a vacancy circular for 1 post of Assistant Director (Law). The post is classified as General Central Service, Group 'A' Gazetted, Non-Ministerial and has been vacant since 25 November 2025. The High Court of J&K and Ladakh has circulated this notice on 19 May 2026 inviting nominations from suitable officers serving under Central or State Governments. The selected officer will be posted at SVP NPA campus in Hyderabad.
Who Can Apply?
Essential Eligibility (any one of the following):
- Officers of Central Government, State Government, UT Administration, Public Sector Undertakings, recognized research institutions, Universities, Autonomous or Statutory Organisations holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent cadre
- Officers with 5 years' service in Level-10 (Rs. 56,100-1,77,500) or equivalent on regular basis in the parent cadre
- Officers of State Judicial Service with 7 years' service currently working in the pay scale of Rs. 39,530-54,010 on regular basis
Desirable Qualification:
- Master's Degree in Law from a recognised university
- Three years' experience in teaching law subjects
Note: For non-IPS officers, the total deputation period (including this post and any previous ex-cadre posting) should not exceed 4 years.
Age Limit
- Maximum age for appointment by deputation: 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of application
- For IPS officers, the deputation period is governed by IPS tenure rules
Salary
- Pay Scale: Level-11 of the Pay Matrix (Rs. 67,700 - Rs. 2,08,700)
- DA, HRA and other allowances admissible as per Central Government orders
- Training Allowance as per Central Government orders
- For Central/State Government officers, pay drawn from parent government is protected
Selection Process
Selection is done through deputation including short term contract. Steps involved:
- Nomination through proper channel: Cadre Controlling Authority verifies eligibility and forwards application
- Scrutiny of bio-data and ACRs: SVP NPA shortlists nominations based on service records, last 5 years' ACRs (2020-21 to 2024-25), and major/minor penalties of last 10 years
- Final selection by the competent authority based on suitability

Responsibilities
- Impart training in law subjects to IPS Probationers attending courses at the Academy
- Design and deliver law modules covering Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) and other Special Laws
- Integrate current legal developments and recent case laws into the training curriculum
- Facilitate interactive sessions that bridge theoretical legal knowledge with practical application
- Bring real-world insights into judicial processes, evidentiary standards and case management
- Guide IPS probationers on substantive and procedural laws and judicial pronouncements
- Take up other duties entrusted by the Director from time to time related to training programmes

Officers of Central/State Government holding analogous post or with 5 years' service in Level-10 of Pay Matrix; or State Judicial Service officers with 7 years' service in pay scale Rs. 39,530-54,010
Preferred Qualification
Master's Degree in Law from a recognised university with three years' experience in teaching law subjects
