SSB Senior Instructor (Mountaineering) Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the border guarding force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is looking for a seasoned climber to fill its Senior Instructor (Mountaineering) post. It is a Group 'A' Gazetted post filled on deputation, including short-term contract — so this is not an opening for fresh job seekers. You must already be an officer of the Central Government, a State Government, a Union Territory, or a subordinate or autonomous body, recognised research institution or university.

What makes this notice stand out is how specialised it is. Along with a degree, you need both the Basic and Advance Mountaineering Courses from a recognised institute and real expedition experience. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Feeder-grade bar: Departmental candidates in the feeder category who are in the direct line of promotion cannot be considered for this deputation. In the same way, officers already on deputation cannot move into the post through promotion.
• Tenure cap: This deputation, added to any other ex-cadre deputation you held just before it in the same or another Central Government office, should ordinarily not go beyond three years.
• Rules that apply to you: While on deputation you will be governed by the SSB Act and Rules and SSB's instructions, and you must exercise the required "option" after selection.
• No backing out: Once you are selected, you will not be allowed to withdraw your name.
• Experience wording: The eligibility table in the advertisement asks for five years of practical expedition experience, while the Annexure-I bio-data form lists three years. Go by the five-year figure in the main advertisement.
• Strict screening: Incomplete applications and those reaching after the closing date are rejected. SSB may also change the number of vacancies or cancel the advertisement fully or partly.
