DIAT JRF Computer Science Recruitment 2026: Overview

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune — a deemed university under the Department of Defence Research and Development, Ministry of Defence — is looking for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in its Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The fellow will work on a Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES)-sponsored project that uses deep learning models to automatically characterise and identify water species from underwater video.

This is a project-based, temporary fellowship, a good fit if you come from computer science, IT or electronics and want hands-on deep learning research with real-world data. DIAT encourages its fellows to register for a Ph.D. at the institute through the normal channels, so the post can also be your first step towards a doctorate.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: the position is purely temporary for 10 months or until the project ends, whichever comes first.
• No absorption: the JRF offer gives you no right to a permanent job at DIAT, Pune.
• Medical cover: besides the stipend, you get medical facilities limited to the institute's MI Room.
• Shortlisting: if many people apply, a Screening Committee may limit interview calls by looking at qualifications and experience above the minimum — so list every qualification and experience clearly, with proof.
• Recognised sources: your degrees and experience must come from recognised universities, institutions or industries.
• Joining: the selected candidate must join immediately on receiving the offer letter.
• No TA/DA: you will not be paid travel costs for attending the interview.
