The Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC) has released Advertisement No. 22/SPSC/EXAM/2026 dated 17 June 2026 to fill 37 Warder posts on a temporary regular basis through direct recruitment. These posts are for the Sikkim State Jail under the Home Department. This recruitment is open only to local candidates of Sikkim.

A Warder is a uniformed member of the prison staff who keeps watch over inmates and helps maintain security and discipline inside the jail. This is a stable, entry-level government job with a good pay level and clear duties, which makes it a popular choice among Class 12 pass candidates in Sikkim. Because the posts are filled through the Sikkim Public Service Commission on a temporary regular basis, selected candidates join the regular set-up of the Sikkim State Jail.

The 37 posts are shared among 14 reservation categories so that candidates from different communities of Sikkim get a fair chance. The Unreserved, Bhutia-Lepcha, Other Backward Classes (Central and State lists) and Scheduled Tribe (Limboo and Tamang) categories each have 4 posts, and the rest are spread across the other categories.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board.
• Local Status: Only local candidates of Sikkim who hold a Sikkim Subject Certificate or Certificate of Identification (COI) can apply.
• Local candidates only: The Sikkim Subject Certificate or COI proves that you belong to Sikkim. Candidates from outside the state are not eligible for these posts.

Age Limit

• You should be between 18 and 22 years old as on 31 July 2026.
• Make sure you fall within this age range on the cut-off date — candidates above 22 years are not eligible unless they qualify for category relaxation.
• Age relaxation for reserved categories will be given as per Sikkim government rules mentioned in the official notification.

Salary

• The Warder post is placed in Level 6 of the Pay Matrix, with a starting basic pay of around Rs. 35,400 per month, going up to about Rs. 1,12,400 over the pay band.
• Level 6 is a respectable pay level for an entry post, and along with regular allowances it gives you a steady monthly income from the start of your service.
• You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Sikkim government rules. The exact in-hand amount depends on the allowances and deductions applicable at the time of joining.
• During the period of probation, apprenticeship or training, pay will be governed by Notification No. 489/GEN/DOP dated 31.10.2011.

Physical Standards

For Male Candidates:

• Height: 5 feet 5 inches (165 cm)
• Chest: 32 inches (normal) with 2 inches expansion
• Weight: 50 kg

For Female Candidates:

• Height: 5 feet (152 cm)
• Weight: 45 kg
• Chest measurement is not applicable.

Meeting these physical standards is compulsory. Candidates who do not meet the minimum height, chest or weight will not be selected, so check the requirements against your own measurements before applying.

• Pay the fee before the last date. Your application is treated as complete only after the fee is paid successfully.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in these stages:

1. Written Examination: An objective written exam as per the scheme given in Appendix I and II of the official notification.
2. Physical Standard Verification: Checking of height, chest and weight against the required standards.
3. Document Verification: Scrutiny of certificates and eligibility for the shortlisted candidates.

Only candidates who clear the written examination move to the next stages. Your physical measurements must meet the required standards, and your original documents are checked before final selection. The detailed exam scheme is given in Appendix I and II of the official notification, so read it carefully before you prepare.

3. Fill in the online application form for the Warder post (Advt No. 22/SPSC/EXAM/2026).

• Guard the jail premises and keep watch over inmates on assigned duty shifts
• Maintain discipline, order and security inside the Sikkim State Jail
• Escort prisoners safely during court appearances, hospital visits and transfers
• Check the movement of people and goods entering and leaving the jail
• Report any suspicious activity, incident or emergency to senior officers
• Follow jail rules, safety guidelines and the orders of the Superintendent
• Work in rotating shifts, including night duty, as per the duty roster
