Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), formerly the University of Pune, has issued the recruitment notification (Advertisement No. 28) for 111 Government Sanctioned Teaching Posts in its various departments. The university, known as the "Oxford of the East," is filling positions across over 30 disciplines spanning sciences, humanities, social sciences, law, and interdisciplinary studies. Selection is through document screening and interview — no written exam. Both freshers with NET/SET qualification and experienced researchers with Ph.D. and publications are eligible depending on the post.

Who Can Apply?

For Professor (Block A — Level 14):

• Option A: Ph.D. in the relevant discipline + minimum 10 years of teaching/research experience as Assistant/Associate Professor + at least 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals + total research score of 120 as per UGC criteria
• Option B: Ph.D. from any academic institution/industry with significant contribution to knowledge + 10 years experience in the relevant discipline

For Associate Professor (Block B — Level 13A):

• Ph.D. in the relevant/allied discipline
• Master's Degree with at least 55% marks
• Minimum 8 years of teaching or research experience
• At least 7 publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals
• Total research score of 75 as per UGC criteria

For Assistant Professor (Block C — Level 10):

• Option A: Master's Degree with 55% marks in the relevant subject + cleared NET/SET/SLET conducted by UGC or CSIR OR awarded a Ph.D. as per UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure) Regulations 2009 or 2016
• Option B: Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked in top 500 by QS, THE, or ARWU rankings
• Relaxation of 5% marks (from 55% to 50%) for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-abled candidates

Note: Candidates from Maharashtra reserved categories (SC, ST, OBC, DT-NT, SBC, SEBC) only will be considered under reserved posts. Candidates from outside Maharashtra will be treated as Open category.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on academic merit and interview:

1. Document Screening and Shortlisting: Applications are screened for eligibility. For Assistant Professor, academic score (API score) as per Appendix II (Table 3A) of GR dated 8 March 2019 and 5 May 2024 is used for shortlisting.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for a personal interview at SPPU, Pune. Candidates attend at their own expense.
3. Document Verification: Original certificates must be produced at the time of interview.

The selection process and appointments are subject to the outcome of court cases (Writ Petition No. 12051/2015 and 4940/2024) pending before the Bombay High Court.
