Shillong Medical College (SMC), under the Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya, is hiring 9 faculty posts — 6 Professors and 3 Associate Professors — on a contract basis. Shillong Medical College (SMC), Government of Meghalaya has released a rolling advertisement (No. SMC-97/2026/Estt./HR) to fill 9 contractual faculty posts across multiple medical departments. This drive covers Professors in 6 departments and Associate Professors in 3 departments. The eligibility follows the NMC Teachers Eligibility Qualifications (TEQ) 2025 guidelines. Both fresh and in-service medical faculty can apply.

Who Can Apply?

For Professor Posts

• Qualification: MD / MS / DNB in the concerned subject.
• Experience: At least 3 years as Associate Professor in a recognised medical institution (or equivalent Armed Forces experience), plus at least 2 research publications as one of the first three authors after becoming Associate Professor.
• You must have completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from a recognised institution.

For Associate Professor Posts

• Qualification: MD / MS / DNB in the concerned subject.
• Experience: At least 4 years as Assistant Professor in a recognised medical institution, or 5 years for those appointed directly as Assistant Professor in a Government medical institution, plus at least 2 research publications as one of the first three authors after becoming Assistant Professor.
• You must have completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from a recognised institution.

• You must have an up-to-date registration with the NMC / State Medical Council for all your post-MBBS qualifications.
• Retired faculty from Private Medical Colleges, Institutes of National Importance (INIs) and other Government Medical Colleges can also apply as per the eligibility for each post.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 70 years (as on 28 May 2026).
• The maximum tenure of engagement will be up to 70 years of age or the contract period, whichever is earlier.

Salary

• Professor: Fixed monthly pay of Rs. 3,20,000 for contractual posts.
• Associate Professor: Fixed monthly pay of Rs. 2,60,000 for contractual posts.
• In-service candidates will be paid as per Government rules.

Selection Process

1. Interview (Offline): Selection is based on your academic credentials and performance in an interview before the Selection Board. No TA/DA will be given for attending the interview.
2. Document Verification: Your original certificates are checked before the interview or before the offer of appointment.
3. Medical Fitness: The selected candidate must be declared medically fit by the Medical Board.
