SGPGIMS Senior Resident Psychiatry Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow has issued a supplementary seat matrix under its rolling walk-in advertisement to fill Senior Resident (Hospital Services) seats in the Department of Psychiatry at the Apex Trauma Centre. These are short-term appointments of 89 days, filled through a walk-in interview, so you do not need to clear an entrance exam to get in.

SGPGIMS runs this rolling advertisement through the year: the walk-in is normally held on the last Friday of every month, and the monthly seat matrix shows which departments have open seats. If you hold a postgraduate degree in Psychiatry and want short-term residency experience at a major teaching hospital in Lucknow, this supplementary round is worth your time.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Each appointment lasts 89 days or until a regular appointment through the entrance test, whichever comes first. You can get at most two more terms (three in all), with a cooling period in between, if your performance report is good and the head of department recommends it.
• Reservation and domicile: Reservation follows Uttar Pradesh Government rules. Reserved-category candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh are treated as Unreserved. OBC certificates must be less than six months old.
• Open competition: Because patient care is an essential service, any candidate can appear against any category seat. If no suitable OBC candidate turns up, the OBC seat goes to the Unreserved category.
• Selected outside your category: If you are picked against another category's seat, your appointment cannot be renewed after 89 days, and you must face a fresh interview to continue.
• Recognised degree: Your degree must be recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Degrees from departments still awaiting recognition are rejected at any stage.
• Posting and stay: You can be posted anywhere in SGPGIMS, and all residents must live on campus in the semi-furnished hostel.
• Joining: The appointment letter reaches your email within 7 working days, and you must join within 7 days of getting it — otherwise the seat goes to the next waitlisted candidate.
• Medical fitness: You can join only after the Institute's Medical Board declares you medically fit.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online form. Download the prescribed application form from the Current Openings page of the SGPGIMS website, fill it in and bring it with you on the interview day.

• Morning: Sign the attendance register and finish document verification at the office of the Psychiatry department between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM.
• Afternoon: Candidates cleared at verification face the interview at the School of Telemedicine (Second Floor), SGPGIMS, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
• Fee payment: Transfer the fee by RTGS to Director, SGPGI (Academic Account), A/c No. 10095237571, IFSC SBIN0007789, State Bank of India, SGPGIMS Branch, and write the reference number on your form.
• Bring your original documents plus two sets of photocopies.
