State Bank of India (SBI) has released Advertisement No. CRPD/PO/2026-27/09 for Probationary Officer recruitment. This is a major banking recruitment with 1446 regular vacancies and 54 backlog vacancies. Graduates from any stream can apply, making this one of the most important SBI openings for candidates preparing for bank officer jobs in 2026.

The selected officers may be posted in any SBI office across India. The recruitment process has three phases: online preliminary exam, online main exam, and a final phase with psychometric test, group exercise and interview. The vacancy numbers are provisional and may change depending on SBI's final requirement. OBC reservation is for non-creamy layer candidates only, and EWS candidates need a valid income and asset certificate for the relevant financial year.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• Minimum qualification: You need graduation in any discipline from a recognised university.
• Equivalent qualification: Any equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government is accepted.
• Final year candidates: You can apply provisionally, but if called for interview you must prove that you passed graduation on or before 30 September 2026.
• Integrated Dual Degree: Your IDD passing date should be on or before 30 September 2026.
• Professional qualifications: Medical, Engineering, Chartered Accountant and Cost Accountant qualifications are also accepted.

Other Conditions

• Citizenship: The notice is for Indian citizens.
• Attempts: UR and EWS candidates get 6 chances; OBC and PwBD categories listed in the notice get 9 chances; SC/ST candidates have no restriction.
• CIBIL condition: You should clear any defaulted bank, NBFC, credit card or financial institution dues before joining.

Age Limit

• You should be between 21 and 30 years old as on 1 April 2026.
• You must have been born not later than 1 April 2005 and not earlier than 2 April 1996.
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years relaxation.
• SC / ST: 5 years relaxation.
• PwBD: 10 years for UR/EWS, 13 years for OBC, and 15 years for SC/ST.
• Ex-servicemen and eligible commissioned officers: 5 years relaxation as per the notice.

Salary

• Basic pay scale: Rs. 48,480 - 2000/7 - 62,480 - 2340/2 - 67,160 - 2680/7 - 85,920 for Junior Management Grade Scale-I.
• Starting basic pay is Rs. 48,480 with 4 advance increments as stated in the notification.
• Approximate initial CTC at Mumbai is Rs. 21.97 lakh per year.
• You will also get DA, HRA, CCA, PF, NPS, LFC, medical facility, lease rental facility and other allowances as per SBI rules.

• Unreserved / EWS / OBC: Rs. 750
• SC / ST / PwBD: No fee
• Payment mode: Online through debit card, credit card, internet banking or UPI.
• The fee is non-refundable after payment.

Selection Process

SBI PO selection will be done in three phases. You must qualify each required stage before moving to the next one.

1. Phase I - Preliminary Examination: Online objective test with 100 questions for 100 marks in 1 hour. It has English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability.
2. Phase II - Main Examination: Online objective test for 200 marks and descriptive paper for 30 marks. The total time is 3 hours 30 minutes.
3. Negative Marking: For objective tests, 1/4th of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for a wrong answer.
4. Phase III - Psychometric Test: Personality profiling will be conducted for shortlisted candidates.
5. Group Exercise and Interview: Group exercise carries 20 marks and interview carries 30 marks.
6. Final Merit: Main exam marks and Phase III marks are normalised to 100 marks. Preliminary exam marks are not counted for final merit.
7. Document Verification and Medical Fitness: Final appointment depends on original document checks, satisfactory references, medical fitness and other joining formalities.
