Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Burla — a leading state university in Odisha — is engaging 2 Guest Faculties (Assistant Professors) in the P.G. Department of Statistics for the academic session 2026-27. The engagement runs from 01 July 2026 to 31 May 2027 or till the regular vacancy is filled, whichever is earlier. No written exam — selection is based on a structured 100-mark evaluation including demo class and viva-voce.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: As per UGC Guidelines, 2018. PhD / NET qualified candidates are preferred
  • In the absence of PhD / NET candidates, applicants with a Post-Graduate degree in Statistics with a good academic record will be considered
  • Engaged retired faculty may continue teaching until they attain 70 years of age (subject to periodical review)

Honorarium

  • With PhD Degree (against vacant Assistant Professor post for PG courses): Rs. 1,000 per class, maximum 60 classes / month, capped at Rs. 60,000 per month
  • Without PhD (for PG/UG courses; NET-qualified candidates preferred): Rs. 750 per class, maximum 60 classes / month, capped at Rs. 45,000 per month
  • If more than 40 classes are taken in any month, you may have to take up administrative assignments from the next month
  • No other allowances are payable. TDS will be deducted as per applicable rates
  • Guest Faculty are allowed 10 days of leave in a year

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on a 100-mark structured evaluation:

  1. General Career (30 marks): HSC, Intermediate, Degree marks
  2. Research Degree (20 marks): M.Phil, PhD, etc.
  3. Demo Class (15 marks): 5 to 10 minutes long
  4. Research Publications (15 marks): 10 marks per international journal, 5 per national journal
  5. Viva-Voce (20 marks)

Responsibilities

  • Teach Statistics courses at PG (and UG, if assigned) level as per the approved curriculum
  • Prepare lecture notes, study materials, and assessment papers for assigned classes
  • Conduct examinations and evaluate answer scripts within the timelines
  • Guide research projects of PG students and act as co-guide for PhD where eligible
  • Carry out research and apply for sponsored research projects as per funding agency rules
  • Participate in academic committees, seminars, and conferences organised by the department
  • Conduct continuing education programs in new and emerging areas of Statistics
  • Take up any other academic assignment given by the Head of the Department

Post-Graduate degree in Statistics with a good academic record. PhD or UGC-NET qualification preferred (as per UGC Guidelines, 2018)
