About This Job

Sambalpur University is hiring 5 Guest Faculty posts (Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor) in the Department of Environmental Sciences. This is a walk-in interview on 18 June 2026 at Jyoti Vihar, Burla. If you have a Ph.D. or NET qualification in Environmental Sciences, you can attend. The honorarium goes up to Rs. 50,000 per month for retired professors and Rs. 60,000 per month maximum for guest faculty handling more than 40 classes.

Sambalpur University Guest Faculty Recruitment 2026 - 5 Posts

Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Burla, has issued Letter No. 787/ENS/2026 dated 20 May 2026 calling for a walk-in interview to engage guest faculties in the Department of Environmental Sciences. The recruitment covers retired Professors, retired Associate Professors and fresh Assistant Professors on a purely temporary basis. No written exam is required — selection is by demo class, viva-voce and academic merit.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification (as per UGC Guidelines 2018)

  • Professor (Guest Faculty): Retired Professor to be engaged against the vacant post of Professor
  • Associate Professor (Guest Faculty): Retired Professor or Retired Associate Professor
  • Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty): Candidates with Ph.D. degree to be engaged for PG courses
  • Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty) for PG/UG Courses: Candidates without Ph.D. — preference will be given to candidates having qualified NET

In case of non-availability of candidates having PhD/NET qualification, candidates with Post-Graduate Degree with good academic record will be considered.

Age Limit

  • The notification does not specify a fixed minimum or maximum age for fresh applicants.
  • Engaged Retired Faculty may continue teaching till they attain 70 years of age, subject to periodical review of satisfactory performance.

Salary (Honorarium)

  • Professor (Retired): Rs. 50,000 per month for at least 35 classes per month + research guidance + administrative responsibility
  • Associate Professor (Retired): Rs. 40,000 per month for at least 35 classes per month + research guidance + administrative responsibility
  • Assistant Professor with Ph.D. (PG courses): Rs. 1,000 per class, maximum 60 classes per month, capped at Rs. 60,000 per month
  • Assistant Professor without Ph.D. (PG/UG, NET preferred): Rs. 750 per class, maximum 60 classes per month, capped at Rs. 45,000 per month
  • No other allowances or financial benefits are admissible.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection will be made through a walk-in interview based on the following marks distribution (total 100):

  1. General Career (HSC, Intermediate, Degree etc.): 30 marks
  2. Research Degree (M.Phil, Ph.D. etc.): 20 marks
  3. Demo Class: 15 marks (duration 05-10 minutes)
  4. Research Publication: 15 marks (10 for international journals, 5 for national journals)
  5. Viva-Voce: 20 marks

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned PG and UG courses in Environmental Sciences as per the approved curriculum
  • Conduct examinations and provide research guidance to UG and PG students
  • Co-guide Ph.D. research projects where qualifications and experience permit
  • Take up sponsored research projects as per funding agency rules and regulations
  • Launch continuing-education programmes in new and emerging areas of Environmental Sciences
  • Organise national or international conferences, seminars and workshops as co-organiser without any financial commitment from the University
  • Participate in academic and research committees within the University and outside when required
  • Deliver guest lectures at other institutions and accept invitations as per University guidelines

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Post-Graduate degree in Environmental Sciences with good academic record. Ph.D. or NET qualification preferred as per UGC Guidelines 2018.

Preferred Qualification

Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences. For non-Ph.D. candidates, preference will be given to those with qualified NET.

Required Skills

Subject expertise in Environmental Sciences, teaching ability, research guidance, knowledge of UG and PG syllabus, ability to deliver demo classes and lectures

Age Limit

18 - 70 years

Salary & Compensation

Pay Scale

Honorarium: Retd. Professor Rs. 50,000/month; Retd. Associate Professor Rs. 40,000/month; Assistant Professor with Ph.D. Rs. 1,000/class (max Rs. 60,000/month); Assistant Professor without Ph.D. Rs. 750/class (max Rs. 45,000/month).

Allowances

No other allowances or financial benefits. 10 days leave per year. All statutory deductions including TDS will be made by the University.
