Puducherry PWD Chief Engineer Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Chief Secretariat (Works), Government of Puducherry wants a senior civil engineer to head the Public Works Department (PWD), Puducherry as its Chief Engineer. The post sits in the General Central Services, Group 'A' Gazetted, Non-Ministerial cadre. Its rules fill it by promotion, failing which by deputation, and this circular is the deputation route that opens it to officers from outside the department.

This is a transfer on deputation, not open recruitment. Only serving officers of the Central Government, State Governments or Union Territory Governments can apply, and the application has to come through your own employer. If you already hold an analogous post, or have spent several years in the grade just below it, this is a chance to lead the works department of a Union Territory.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Feeder-grade officers cannot apply: PWD Puducherry officers who are in the direct line of promotion are not considered for deputation, and deputationists are not considered for promotion.
• Tenure: Deputation ordinarily lasts up to five years, counting any ex-cadre deputation you held just before this posting in a Central Government department.
• Pay on deputation: Your pay is fixed under the DoPT O.M. No. 6/8/2009-Estt.(Pay-II) dated 17.06.2010, as amended.
• Reservation: There is no SC/ST reservation for posts filled on deputation.
• Age cut-off: The upper age limit is counted on the closing date for receipt of applications.
• No withdrawal: Once your application is forwarded, you will not be allowed to withdraw it later.

Application Submission Notes

Fill the bio-data proforma in duplicate, available on the department website pwd.py.gov.in, and hand it to your employer. Your employer must forward it, with your APAR dossiers for the last five years, cadre clearance, integrity and vigilance certificates, to The Under Secretary to Government (Works), Chief Secretariat, Puducherry 605 001.

The employer also has to certify that your details are correct and that no disciplinary case is pending or planned against you. Applications sent directly, without APARs, late, or incomplete will be rejected. The circular sets the closing rule as six weeks (42 days) from publication in the Employment News.
