The Puducherry Examining Authority (PEA) is hiring 1 Museum Assistant (Science) under the Department of Art and Culture. The Puducherry Examining Authority (PEA), Chief Secretariat, has released Advertisement No. 01/CGL/PEA/2026 for the Combined Graduate Level Examination-2026 (CGL Exam). The Museum Assistant (Science) post falls under the Department of Art and Culture and is a Group-C, Level-5 permanent government position. Only candidates who are natives or residents of the Union Territory of Puducherry are eligible to apply. The selection will be through a written competitive examination.
Who Can Apply?
Educational Qualification
- Required: A Degree in Natural Science / Physical Science / Ecology / Engineering from a recognized University or Institution.
- Desirable (preferred but not mandatory):
- Diploma / PG Diploma in Museology; and
- One year of research or field experience in Museum-related work in a government-recognized institution.
Nativity / Domicile
- You must be a native or resident of the Union Territory of Puducherry with at least 5 years of continuous residence immediately before the date of this notification.
- You will need to produce a fresh Nativity/Residence Certificate from a Revenue Authority (not below Deputy Tahsildar rank) if selected.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 30 years as on 13 April 2026 (closing date of online application).
- MBC / OBC / EBC / BCM / BT: 3 years relaxation
- SC / ST: 5 years relaxation
- Ex-Servicemen: Period of military service plus 3 years
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years relaxation (over and above 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for MBC/OBC/EBC/BCM/BT)
- Widows / Divorced Women / Women judicially separated and not remarried: Up to 35 years (40 years for SC/ST)
- In-service Government Servants: Up to 40 years (feeder posts in allied cadre)
Salary
- Pay Level: Group-C, Level-5 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.
- Entry Pay: Rs. 29,200 per month
- Pay Range: Rs. 29,200 to Rs. 92,300 per month
- Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per the Government of Puducherry rules.
Selection Process
The selection will be done through a Written Competitive Examination in 2 stages:
- Paper-I — Common Paper (for all posts): 100 objective-type questions for 100 marks in 2 hours. Covers General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Studies & Current Affairs, Ethics and Morality, English Language & Grammar, and Computer Knowledge. Weightage: 25% of total score.
- Paper-IIB — Subject-Specific Paper (Post 1015/2026): 100 objective-type questions for 100 marks in 2 hours. Covers History (Prehistoric to Modern India), Museology (museum types, documentation, display methods, conservation), Numismatics (punch marked coins, Indo-Greek coins, Gupta coins), Epigraphy & Paleography (Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions, Stone inscriptions), Anthropology (Society and Culture, basic research techniques), Cultural Heritage Legislation (UNESCO charters, Indian and international laws), and Contemporary Issues (virtual museums, digital curation). Weightage: 75% of total score.
Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
Exam Language: Bilingual — English and Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam. (Questions on English language/grammar are not translated.)
Exam Type: Objective (MCQ), OMR-based.
Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- General / Unreserved: 30%
- OBC / MBC / EBC / BCM / BT / EWS: 25%
- SC / ST / PwBD / XSM: 20%
After the written exam, a Provisional Short List of 3 times the number of vacancies will be prepared. These shortlisted candidates will be called for Certificate Verification of age, education, nativity, and community certificates.

- Assist in the collection, documentation, and cataloguing of science exhibits and museum artifacts
- Handle the display, arrangement, and maintenance of scientific specimens and models
- Prepare labels, descriptions, and informational panels for museum exhibits
- Support conservation and preservation activities for science-related collections
- Guide visitors and school groups through the science section of the museum
- Assist in organizing science exhibitions, events, and educational programs
- Maintain records of all specimens, exhibits, and related documentation
